This is the findings from Andrews MRI: There has been no interval change since the previous scan. The feint area of enhancement identified on the previous scans is now resolved and may have represented a post radiotharapy change. There is evidence of gilosis in the right temporal lobe following the previous surgery. There are no signs of any abnormal intracranial enhancement in this region and there are no signs of tumour recurrence. Previous right temporal craniotomy noted. The degree of high signal change identified on the FLAIR sequences in the right temporal lobe is essentially unchanged. A couple of things if anyone can explain - evidence of gilosis in right temporal lobe and also degree of high signal change on the FLAIR sequences is essentially unchanged. I am thankful that everything is good but am curious to know more about these things. Thanks. Love to all. Jen.

Jen, you got me stumped. I really do not have any clue as to what "gilosis". Even a google search did not come up with much. Are you sure it did not say "gliosis"? I am making a guess about that since a GBM is one of the cancers involving Glial cells. I think this is one of those cases where an oncologist should be consulted. The "osis" suffix meas "abnormality."

I do know that a FLAIR Sequence is one of the MRI techniques used. Have you ever had an MRI? If not, you probably do not know that an MRI has several sequences of scans. I cannot give you any specific details about what exactly it involves, but I have seen the term used on my MRI reports in the past.

Overall, Andrew's report sounds fantastic to me Very Happy . Life goes on. Make the most of it Wink. But these are two questions that Andrew should consult with his on medical team about.

Hi Jim, Thanks for your reply. Sorry for making you go on a wild goose chase. That was a typo, it actually says gliosis. We will speak with Andrew's Oncologist and find out a bit more. We are very pleased with the results and are only curious as to what those things mean. Anyway we celebrate life and enjoy every day. Love to all. Jen.

Isn't "gliosis" some sort of scar tissue? The fact that the majority of the MRI says "unchanged" sounds good to me. Hope you keep getting more good news jen. (I don't know anything about the brain but i'm learning. I just know that my doctors are hoping for "no change", so from what I understand that's a good thig) Very Happy

Yes, Noid is correct. A gliosis is a "brain scar". I have one in my head right now. It is normal (non malignant) astrocytes filling at least partially the area where the cancer was removed. As I understand from my oncologist there is no concern about it and nothing needs to be done for it.
