Hi Purush, I am so sorry about your news. It is particularly hard when a child is involved.
Here is a site which gives you good information about bone cancers and their treatments: http://www.medicinenet.com/bone_cancer/article.htm.
It may not be possible to advise about where to get treatment in India (unless someone else there is coming to the forums), but it would help if you can find out what kind of bone cancer it is. If you can let us know, I am sure someone will have advice.
Best wishes to you and your family. |

Hi, I to a very sorry about your relative's bone cancer. As Vee said, unless someone else from India happens to be a member, we probably will not be able to help you find a treatment center in India.
As for your other questions, I can try to answer them.
1. Cause of cancer: One single cause of all cancers is probably never going to be found. The closest anyone can come is that something turns up the gene(s) that control how fast cells divide.
2. Symptoms: These vary depending on the type of cancer. That is why Vee asked for the specific type of bone cancer. The symptoms also will depend on the stage or grade of the cancer.
3. Treatment: That two depends on the type of cancer. I am sure you know that there are three basic forms of treatment: Surgery, Chemotherapy, and Radiation Therapy. Surgery on any type of bone cancer is based on its state and size. If it is too large and will require taking out a major portion of the bone, the doctors will not do surgery. More common is Chemotherapy and radiation therapy... either at the same time or in sequence.
4. Prevention: There is very little anyone can do to prevent cancer since so little is known about the causes for cancer. For some types of cancer there are ways to decrease the likelihood of getting that cancer. For example, not smoking will go a long way to helping you not get lung cancer; not chewing tobacco can help you not to get oral cancer. This list could go on and on. But even the two examples I have given are filled with exceptions... people who have smoked all their lives but not developed lung cancer, for example.
5. Activities: Here too there are many. Primary among them is to maintain a healthy life-style. Here is where I say: "Do as I say, not as I do" Eating right, drinking a lot of pure water, making sure you have all the vitamins and minerals you need, exercising, and living in a low pollution environment should be at the top of the list.
As you can see, I have few specific answers because your questions are so general and I do not know specifics about your relative's bone cancer. Honestly, even if I did, *I* could only speak in generalities but someone else might be able to be more specific.
You and your relative are in my thoughts and prayers. _________________ Jim

Hi Vee/Braiman,
I am thankful to you for your quick responce, here are the details from the doctor who is currently treating the child.
1. Cancer has developed in right leg thigh bone near the knee joint,
a tumer has formed.
2. Age of the girl is 12 years.
3. before identifying it as a cancer, a pathologist had performed a
surgery to remove the tumer.
4. On testing the tumer the same doctor had confirmed it as a cancer.
5. He Says the maximum duration of survival for the child is 24 months.
this too requires a surgery removing the right leg of the child.
Else
Without surgery she could only survive 9 months.
6. The tumer started developing and effecting (Acute PAIN) just 15 days
back.
Her parents cannot beleive it, even I. Please let us know if her life time is really so low, or how can we save her. _________________ Regards

purush, my heart just breaks when I read about a child facing such a devastating cancer . I wish a could give her a few of my years.
It sounds like it is a very aggressive cancer and should be treated very aggressively. I do not know what is available in India. I assume you have Googled the Internet for cancer centers in India? I did a brief search and found a list:
http://www.gatewayforindia.com/medical/health/cancer.htm
Maybe you know some of them. I do not.
My best wishes to this young child and all of her family. _________________ Jim

Hi Brainman,
It supports to my belief that there are still a few kind harts in the world which really think of the poor people and unfortunate ones. Thanks a lot.
As you guessed I did google for cancer hospitals in india, Infact joining this group was one of those efforts. our people are in touch with one of those specialized hospitals. below are the details
Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology - Located in Bangalore, this Institute was established in 1973 and is currently one of the leading Cancer treatment and research Institutes.
Though a parelled effort is made at the other end, I am on the net in order to collect the max information. As I belive 'A Stich In Time Saves Nine' but for that stich in time we need knowledge and information.
I shall be visiting this forum quite frequently, bringing the updates and seeking he suggestions. Hope you all welcome me. _________________ Regards
