Since I just arrived here, I am sorry to hear of Freeio's passing today. Seems like he was a much loved and and valued member.

My prayers go up to him and his family.

I came because my friend of 35+ years has sent a short but disturbing email.

I copy it below, because it sounds serious.
She is 2500 miles away from me, and I don't know what comfort or advice to offer her.

She is in Wilmington, NC. If anyone knows where she should go for diagnosis or treatment in that area, please let me know. It sounds so typical of pancreatic cancer I am really worried.

Well It's been really taxing. I turned jaundiced and they ran blood and it wasn't hepatitis, so then I had to go for a cat scan and they found a small mass on the head of my pancreas...Not good! I went into micro surgery last wed for them to put in a what called a stint to enable the bile to come out of my gallbladder. The mass is covering up the duct and this is why I have been jaundice. They did this. I'm not as yellow, but my eyes still don't look good, so they believe the stint maybe clogged up. I do need lot's of prayers my friend. I will be going back for another micro surgery to do a biopsy on mass I believe this Wed. The Doctor thinks it could be cancer, but of course will know more after the biopsy has been done.

Just say prayers for me honey. I have been really stressed on this one, but also hoping it's not cancer....

I don't know enough about this to be any help to her. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Sharon

Sharon, I am very sorry about your friend's illness. All you can do is be supportive. It is not easy to wait. Ask her how she is feeling. Be available for her to chat... even if it is by email. It is good that she is not as yellow now but she still has a long way to go before she knows exactly what is wrong with her. She needs a friend.

Thanks Jim for replying.

I feel so helpless. She is so far away.

I did some more research and found that Wilmington has a pretty good Cancer Center.

That's good to know.

Thanks again for your reply.

Just wanted to say that my friend is doing well after having the Whipple surgery at Duke University in Durham, NC.
