How long did you have your mole before you were diagnosed? My mum thinks hers has been developing for about 8 months and I am worried she has left it too late.

Thanks for any replys.

Mine was a new growth, not a mole. It was nodular melanoma and I had it around 3 years before I had it removed. My doctors told me stage III, but now I have to have a nodule looked after so I guess there could be a chance I'm stage IV.

Inworks, obviously, the sooner she has it checked the better off she will be... especially if it is changing any. There are various types of shin cancers and it really depends on the type and grade of the cancer. If it is a benign mole, she has nothing to worry about. However, she does not know that for a fact until a doctor sees it and biopsies it.

Best wishes.

Hi there Inkworks,

Thinking of your Mom & you. Please know I am praying hard for a positive outcome. I wish you didn't have this time (until surgery) with the worry you have. I know it's impossible to NOT worry, but try & remain positive.

All the best. Cheers, Aussie Angie.

Thanks Angie.

I can't believe this. With just over a week until my mums biopsy she got a letter from the hospital this morning saying that they have had to cancel her biopsy on the 27th of this month and have rescheduled it for the 12th of December!

She has already waited over a month already and I don't think she can afford to wait any longer. I feel like this is some sort of sick joke.

Typical of the NHS service these days, I am afraid.

You could try going to her doctor and seeing if he/she will put pressure on the hospital. You could also write to the hospital director to point out the effect this has on your mother's state of mind and copy the letter to your [or her] MP.

Hey Vee Smith. We have decided to go private. My mum has a consultation on Tuesday so hopefully she will have the mole removed within the week. At least this way if the mole is melanoma it may push the NHS to act faster.

kind regards

You are probably wise - hope it proves to be benign and that all is well in the end.

I still think a letter to the hospital would be a good thing.

I will be thinking and praying for your mother on Tuesday. Let us know how things turn out with the private doctor.

Thanks sodapop.

My mum was at her private consultation yesterday and there's some good news and some bad news.

The good news is the doctor that she saw also works for the NHS and was appalled when my mum told him that her appointment was canceled. Long story short she is getting the mole removed this Monday under the NHS.

The bad news is that he is almost certain that she has melanoma. We will have to wait 2-3 weeks for the results of the biopsy so we have another month of waiting until we know exactly what we are dealing with. The doctor even went as far as to check her groin for lumps so I'm not sure if that means he thinks its already pretty advanced.

I am sick with worry and I think it finally hit my mum just how serious this is. She about had a panic attack in the doctors office.

I am so sorry that the news is not as good as we all hoped it would be. However, at least she is now receiving attention and care, and we will all be rooting for her.
