Hi , i am new to this site and just registered. I am a 19 year old woman. Ive been looking up on lymphoma and other possible causes for this recent lump I found on my neck.
A week ago, while i was scratching my neck on the right side i noticed I had a lump towards the back area of my neck on the right side. If i keep my head straight I can barely feel it but if i turn my head towards the left it becomes more exposed and seems much bigger. I believe its a bit bigger than 1 inch when my head is turned but when its straight it feels a bit bigger then a dime.
It is hard and not very painfull unless i poke at it or around it. It seems to be more sensitive around it then on it. I dont have a fever nor night sweats. I have always suffered from headaches. i get them quite often althought lately i have been having less actually. I feel a little bloathed but i believe that is because i am on my period. I usually get tired and have a headache before my period then i get bloathed and gain a pound or two but loose it once my period ends. I have not lost any weight in fact i have gained a little. I am not particuarly itchy. I get the occasional itch here and there on my head or hand but no more then i ever have my whole life. I am tired sometimes but I dont feel exhausted or extremely tired. I do sometimes work late and dont go to bed until quite late most nights but I am not more tired then before. Basically i dont think i have any other symptoms besides this lump. I have always been hypochondriac to the point where if i read about something I will think that i have or am developping the symptoms for that disease. Part of me tries to convince myself that its nothing but the other part constanly worries that its severe or deadly.
The last time i had a cold was about a month ago and the fact that i just noticed this 1 swollen node now ( i am assuming it is a swollen node what else could there be in my neck?) , could it possibly be related? It seems a bit long to me. It is really worrying me. Any advice or comments would really help. If i wanted to go see a doctor where should i go? I have never really been a fan of going to the doctor. I shouldnt go to the emergency for this should i? I live in canada and medicare is free here and I also have a clinic close to home but its just general doctors nothing specific. Would they be able to diagnose anything?or at least refer me to a specialist?
I know this is a very long post and i am sorry. Once i start writing its hard to get me to stop! Any advice is really appreciated. |

Sescilia, I am very sorry about your current health concerns. The best and only way to find out what that lump really is, is to go see a doctor. There are many things that it could be but only a doctor can do the required tests to identify it.
Best wishes. _________________ Jim

hi sescilia,
my concern is almost EXACTLY the same as yours! except my lump is the the left side of my neck. but everything else you have described sounds so similar to me.
i found my lump on sunday and today (tuesday) i decided to go straight to the doctors to have it checked out. the doctor examined the lump by touching and feeling the area, then checked in my mouth and ears. he asked me a few questions and then asked me to go for a blood test just to be on the safe side (which i was happy to do, becos i was worried he was goin to dismiss it and tell me to only come back if its gets any bigger etc etc...) i went for my blood test straight after my doctor appointment and have another appoitment booked for next tuesday to get results.
im hoping its nothing to worry about (fingers crossed!) but i would definatly go the doctors as soon as you can, just to be safe. xx |

Hey i have a question for you, how big is the lump on the side of your neck? How many cm/in?
I wish my doc sent me for a blood test! He just told me to go home and wait for it to grow... |

my lump is about 3-4cm...
if your not happy with your doctors decision, u cud try and get another opinion from a different doctor? its likely the lump isnt serious but u can never b too careful is what i think! |

Hey...I havent gone to see a doctor yet but the lump has gotten much smaller i can barely feel it unless i turn my head completely the other way.
Its not even 1 cm maybe half a cm. If it continues to shrink i think ill just leave it but if it grows or doesnt go away by itself ill go and see a doctor. |

| Well it is completely gone. I can no longer feel it on my neck. Is this good? Is is sure that it is not lymphoma since it disapeared? Or could it still be? |

Hi Sescilia,
let's hope that it's perhaps just strain muscles. |
