I may have been born with it. Maybe it's slow growing. Maybe it won't change. Maybe my doctors should get off their arses and start giving me answers. Maybe they should have looked at my scans a little closer the first time.
I recieved a call friday informing me there was a tiny mass right in front of the larger one I posted when I first joined this forum. It's only the size of a pea. After looking so closely at it i can see how it was missed.
Has this happened to anyone else here? I'm just having a rough night and have been trying to read as much as i can on different types of brain tumors. My grandmother died of ovarian cancer. My grandfather died of throat cancer. I figured one of those would be what I got first. I'm not use to doctors calling me out of nowhere to tell me they "missed" something on my scans. Tomorrow I call the neurologist back to make a sooner apointment.
The MRI was done in the ER, so I can assume they only noticed the largest spot. I'll have to do a print screen of the "new spot" and load it to my photobucket in the near future. It took me 2 hours to find it after I was alerted to it..it's tiny. I've spent days looking at my scans before and never even noticed it. Same side of the brain as the first one.
Are my doctors incompetent?
Their intellect or lack thereof at times has my nerves a bit on edge. I guess if I have one spot, a few more won't hurt, but still... |

Iam sorry you have had this happen.
However, I think you are being a little harsh on the doctors. You say it took you two hours to spot it so it must be pretty small. They have picked it up and notified you about it, so they have been checking the scans properly and they did find it, even if not on first examination.
We all feel that we are the one person that should have attention paid to them - naturally, our bodies are important to us. But nothing in your account indicates carelessness on the part of the medical staff.
You will be better to direct your anger at the disease and dealing with it rather than at the people treating you.

Noid- I'm so sorry on this new development.
I agree with Vee- It must have been hard to spot- but also their soul purpose at the time was what to do with the big mass etc. If this little mass is close to the big one, Then i have heard of shadow tumours- it's where on a scan, x-ray etc. A small "shadow" from a large mass, will appear. Maybe they thought that was it. *shrug*.
BUT i can also understand your pain and anger- when we want someone to blame- we tend to go to the ones helping us. We have to blame someone right? You feel more in control if you can balme a person for not finding it etc.
But like you said it is small. and at least they have spotted it and can give you an idea on treatment etc.
Keep your chin up, be positive. And feel free to rant and rave all you want- We've all been there sometime. _________________ Thinking of you Inica

I'm usually not much of a ranter. I think i'm just upset because I've just begun to deal with the first diagnosis..and then like a game show "but wait, there's more". Instead of a shiny new car or a vacation trip, I get another spot on my brain...yay
Sometimes I get upset and say too much. I wasn't even sure I was going to talk about it online. I can't help it. My adopted family dosen't understand. Nobody I know has a brain tumor. I have a friend with pseudotumor cerebri and hydrocephalis (sp?) She's been my friend for over 15 years and was only diagnosed about 2 years ago. She has about 2 more years to live, and has a shunt in her head. She drinks alot. She has so many problems that I dont' , or really can't bother her with mine. I'm done whining for the evening. It's good to hear so far that you guys don't think my doctors are morons. I've put my life in their hands, and the mere thought of them being complete idiots sends chills down my spine. The one is german and speaks very broken english. I can't tell if a forigner is an idiot or not, as i can barely understand a word he says. |

currently west virginia. Don't know how they got the german. He seems to be a good doctor other than missing a whole spot on an mri. |

| an MRI is usually only used when absolutely necessary..or at least that's the only time insurance will cover it. It's annoying, as some doctors will do surgery before an mri is done. (not on the brain thank god). If doctors would do an mri for diagnostic purposes..we'd have alot fewer people waiting so long for diagnosis. |
