My father has had multiple reoccurences of melanoma, so I'm particularly wary of my many moles. I've made an appointment with a dermatologist but I can't get in until February. I've had this large mole, located above my left ear, forever...but recently I've noticed it changing in color.

The picture isn't the best, so I drew a line around the perimeter so you can see a bit better perhaps. Please let me know how concerned I should be.

I'm 30 years old.

Hi jl77, I sent you an email a while ago informing you that I deleted your link.

I am sorry about your father's history of melanomas and now your own health concerns. Unfortunately, not even with a very good picture can anyone on this site or any other site diagnose this mole. My advice is to take it seriously and go have it checked by a doctor. We all hope and pray that it is not cancer, but only a doctor can tell you for sure.

I took a look at your link and have approved it and re-posted it for you, jl77.

The picture is just not good enough to even have an opinion about it. It does look like something that you should have a doctor check for you. Sorry that I cannot be of much help to you.

Hi, I am new here - so please excuse me for butting in. Smile The one thing to always be wary of is change. If it changes in size, color, shape, etc... you should have it checked.

If you cannot get into a derm until February, maybe you can go to your primary doctor and have him/her do a biopsy. They can do it also.

Wishing you the best!

I agree with what Pepper said. Do not trust the appearance in making the final diagnosis. It can only be confirmed through a biopsy. My derm had no idea of my melanoma by just looking at it because it was nodular melanoma and it looked like just any ordinary mole. Beware of change and growth.

I was able to get into a different derm earlier...the one my dad recommends with his latest melanoma. So I'll see a doctor in mid-January instead of February. This mole has changed...it has spots of colors where it once didn't. I have another mole on the back of my neck that my dad (who is also a nurse) and a NP told me to have looked at as well...good symmetry but it's two different colors (half red and half brown).

Anyway, thank you all for your thoughts. With my dad's problems with melanoma, and all the moles I have, I am paranoid. I have three young children...two daughters, 5 and 4...and a newborn son. So I just get really emotional thinking about this possibly being a cancer.

I'll let y'all know when I find out more. I definitely will have them removed and biopsied.

I pray for the health of each of you here on this forum. Thank you for your time.
