Hi Clare,

Thanks for your encouragement. I did have the excisional biopsy along with a core biopsy in different area of r breast. All tissue was LCIS and extending into the ducts. I have decided after seeing the oncologist, another surgeon and plastic surgeon to go ahead with bilateral mastectomy on Dec 1. The surgical oncologist said with it being so extensive in the right breast, he's concerned that there may be some invasive portion that they just haven't found with biopsies and that eventually the chance for something to show up in the left side makes it reasonable for bilateral. It may seem overly aggressive to some, but boy am I relieved!!!! If I can avoid Tamoxifen, radiation and/or chemo, I'll feel very fortunate. I am a bit nervous about the recovery and image issues...but have a great support in my family & friends, so will just face it all with their help!! Plus prayer is definitely appreciated!

I wanted to share the results of my pathology report after bilateral mastectomy. It turns out there was a microinvasion (7mm) as well as the LCIS. I am so relieved that the nodes were all clear!! Laughing I am glad that I went with my "gut instincts" for the bilateral mast. I do wonder what would have developed if I had waited & checked again in 6 months like so many advised. Anyway, I'm thankful, pleased and feel so blessed to have this part behind me and know that nothing worse was found!!! I hope it is an encouragement to others who have those gut feelings and want to pursue more testing or treatment. I think those feelings that bothered me about LCIS being "just a marker" and "not really cancer" were my gut telling me "Let's remove all the tissue and see" !! Ha... I guess I'm not very patient or willing to watch and wait. The doc had the same reaction...."We made a good decision on mastectomy since there was an invasive portion". I know it may not be the best decision for others, but hope you will trust your instincts. I started to worry that I was overdoing it, but now feel such relief that I went ahead. Now I just need follow up with Oncologist and discuss Tamoxifen, but hopefully he'll say it's not really needed in my case...???

Thanks for listening & Merry Christmas!!
Jilly
