sequoiaranger-
Thank you for explaining further- little by little I am trying to get my head wrapped around this subject, enough to be involved in decision making...

Just got home after a chest xray and bone scan- to my untrained eye looks like no hot spots, dark spots or other signs of migration of the forces of evil...

Hope that the CT will also show nothing out of place, so that there will just be a local problem to deal with...

badtrip, this is great news! I too hope that the CT is clear because that will mean your prognosis will be better Very Happy. Even with a high Gleason score, it is possible to catch a Prostate Cancer before it has time to metastasize.

Having said this, the other side of the coin is just a heads up for you; there is always a possibility of having an "occult metastatic cancer" (a metastatic cancer too small to be detected at this point). You will need followup PSA tests on a regular schedule to keep track of this possibility. Consult your own medical team about these.

You might want to take a look at the following thread:

Good luck and try to remain positive.

Thanks for the encouragement, Jim.

I just started a new thread "between a rock and a hard place" to try to clarify my options...

This forum has been very helpful to me!

Health!

Good morning badtrip. I read about your cancer. Mine is similar to that and would like to share the story with you. I am 45 and was diagnosed in June of this year (2007). My PSA was 16.3 and gleason was a 9. I had the surgery to remove the prostate however during the surgery they did a lymph node disection and determined that it had spread to the lymph system and the surgery was aborted. Since then i went thru 44 rounds of IMRT radiation and am currently on Lupron. I am doing pretty good I think. If you get a chance send me an email and we can chat further.
