Stage 4

Hello, I am new to this forum and would like to discuss my situation. In May 2007 I was diagnosed with stage 3 with an unknown primary. I had 2 "bumps" in my neck remover surgically with a neck dissection. I went through intense radiation and was then put on interferon. Unfortunately last week I had to have 2 tumors in my back removed (about the size of a lemon). I had a PET scan today and it showed a couple of more spots in the back and 2 "nodules" in my lungs. My oncologists set me up for an MRI of the brain. If no cancer is indicated in the brain she wants me to start interleuken treatments.

Any information would be helpful,

Hi Jess, I am very sorry about your cancer. Do you know what cell type your cancer is? It sounds very aggressive and should be treated very aggressively. I have never taken interferon so I cannot help you much there but I will try to answer your questions and give you as much support as I can. I have had many MRIs during the last 15 years.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for the response. I am not sure what cell type it is other than melanoma. I know they have no idea where it started since there were no skin indications. It seems to have started inside my body. I am done with interferon I took 3 shots a week. I had 6 more months, but my oncologist told me to stop. If the brain scan comes back negative I will start interleuken treatment. She said this would be "ugly". It is given in the hospital and they keep increasing the dosage until you can't stand it anymore. But,if the brain scan shows any melanoma I am not sure they have a plan.
