Hi All,
My story is much like Greg's but I am passed the PSV treatment and now, after my seizures are not responding much to 1800mg of Tegretol and 600mg of Topomax a day, my doctor is suggesting radiotherapy.

My problem with the treatment is that, although the MRI does not show serious growth, I am so fed up with the seizures, (Partial complex - right side), that I am weighing the treatment against my mindset and the long term possible damage as a result of the seizures, which no one has been able to define what they are yet. (Perhaps someone can put some light on that subject).

Does anyone have any experience with radiotherapy and can anyone tell me what sort of a ride to expect. (I know it differs for each person, but some clue would be helpful.)

Any other words of wisdom would be welcome.

Thank you.

David Singer.

Although the dose of radiation could be different but they are similar. Usually patients receive localized radiation and whole brain radiation is not commonly used for this condition.

Common side effects include alopecia, fatigue, skin reaction, dizziness, headache, nausea and (less likely) vomiting. Decrease blood count may also happen but not common. Severe side effects are uncommon although can happen.

Your physician should have explained to you about the complications and side effects in details already. If he/she has not done that, please set up another time for more information.

Hope you will not experience any side effects I mentioned here.

Regards,

Dr. J. Jay Lu

I'm sorry to hear that. I think I'm as worried about the seizures as anything else. I've been fortunate to not have any since the series that put me in the hospital.

A relationship with God and with my wife are about the only things that keep me going. If it weren't for my wife, I probably wouldn't worry as much about things like being able to do my job. I don't want to leave anyone with my debt.

The advice my wife always gives me is to pray. For some reason she keeps needing to tell me. I have this nasty habit of trying to rely on myself. My wife is the persistant NON-widow.
