I am new to this forum but have been worried for the last few days about my (almost) 3 yr old. She has had a weird pattern ( for about 2 months) of high fevers ranging from 102-104.5, the fevers would come on for a few days, she would be lethargic and then go away for a few days and she would be perfectly normal again, she had blood work done b/c there were no other signs of infection (ears, nose, throat, tummy, the strep and flu tests were all normal). The Dr put her on antibiotics anyways just "in case" and said that her urine looked to show signs of infection... a week later the radiologist said that he could see some pneumonia in the base of both of her lungs...She was on antibiotics and did better...A couple of weeks ago she started coughing again and then spiked a fever again. Took her back to the dr and she said that her x-ray looked better than the first time and she may have an ear infection but what most concerned her was the pattern and her high WBC at the 1st lab check... when I ask her what "High" meant she said that her WBC was around 30,000... what does that mean in relation to a normal count for a toddler? She mentioned Leukemia and that they may have to "do more tests... any help you may be able to offer would be greatly appreciated!

you must be so frustrated! My daughter spiked temps but they brought on seizures (febrile) These are typically grown out of by 4. she had two later and were unexplained after many tests were done. I never knew why but keep getting your daughter looked at and locate a specialist if you must . Hopefully its just something simple and she will be fine. Keep us posted on the reults and hopefully all goes well. I will keep my fingers crossed. Very Happy

themouse15, I am very sorry about your daughter. It could still be a viral infection in which case antibiotics are almost worthless. However, you should keep checking with her medical team to make sure. I would thing that at 3 years old, it would be very unusual for your daughter to have leukemia but one never knows.

You and your daughter are in my thoughts and prayers.
