| My mom has finally been diagnosed with lung cancer after months of biopsies being .It is stage iv and unoperable. They will do a brain scan next week and if its there they cannot do chemo or radiation. If not they said chemo is an option. My mom said she will not go through that because of family members going through it and she saw what it did to them with no results. The doctor said 6 months max and I would like to know what to expect during this time. She sits all they time because she stays out of breath. Her back also hurts constantly even with medication. Her head hurts also at times really bad.Are there any other symptoms?I just want to know what to expect. |

hi Staceym, I am very sorry to hear about your Mom. My Mother was diagnosed with lung cancer that spread to her liver and one small brain MET in mid December 2007. She has been in and out of the hospital. She has not been eating or drinking, When we take her to the hospital she gets hydrated and has done one round of chemo at a reduced dosage due to her lack of strength due to not eating.
Mom wanted to leave the hospital today. My preference would have been for her to stay in the hospital and get stronger but I followed through with her wishes. She promises she will eat at home but I have my doubts as she has not really had much to eat since this all started.
We are all trying to do the best we can to make her comfortable and I want to respect her wishes. We will continue to ask her if she would like to drink and eat but we will let her decide. It has been a tough road and nothing could have prepared me for the ordeal, but I can't run and hide and must face it the best I can for her.
I do hope for the the very best outcome for your Mom and know there are so many people that have this shared experience with you. Your Mom will be in my prayers as well as prayers for you to have the strength to make it through this with you Mom.
Lots of love to you and your family |

Hi
Both of your stories sound near and dear to my heart...My mom passed away on Dec 14th, 2007, from NSCLC Stage IV, diagnosed in June of 07. All I can suggest is that you give her as much love and support possible...just surround her with love and as many hugs, kisses and hand-holding that you can offer. Take care, and be blessed...Kim _________________ ...keeping the faith in n.c.

StacyM - don't give up hope. My boyfriend was diagnosed with Stage IV with 3-6 months to live on October 15, 2007 His also mastisied to his brain; radiation was effective there for now, it's my understand it will come back eventually but for now he doesn't have the headaches anymore. He is on strong pain meds, sleeps alot, and bearly eats; but he his still with me and our children (ages 10 and 7). He is hopeful and has no idea that his cancer has no cure. He has been on the first round of chemo and that wasn't effective so the doctor put him on a more stronger chemo - I don't know yet if it's working but his quality of life is better.
Every person is different and it all depends on their will to survive. For my boyfriend has lost weight (sometime 6 pounds a week), lost his hair due to chemo, and is very tired, he also has a short temper. He seems to like soup so I try and make that most often.
Be strong for your mother... also Antidepresents might help you get through this as well.
If noboy has suggested it yet - go and apply for Disability.
You will be in my prayers - Good Luck and GOD BLESS |

Hi staceym,
My mom has stage IV lung cancer. She has been having 6 chemos cycles. She's doing great! Her tumor reduced from 4.5cm to 2.8cm. She also uses some alternative like Milk Thistle and NONONONO Tea.
I feel bad that I don't spend a lot of time with her because I still have to go to work. She stays home alone whole day. I hope she stays healthy like this so I can take her around on summer.
Keep up hope and prays.
Good luck to you. |
