Hello everyone dealing with cancer.I am new to this site and I have my father who is 73 and has melanoma in the mouth was diagnosed Jan.2007.Last week the doctor said he could live up to 2 more years. He has decided not to fight this and will stay with me until he can take no more.Which I think the time is very close. He takes morphine pills, liquid tylenol3,oxycodone pills and the pain is still severe he moans all night.I am confused and helpless at this point.I have been dealing with power of attorney, living will, last thing I hear there is a "hospice".If he cooperates I'll see when or if they can come out to help, I hear its too soon though and you need good insurance. My Dad relies on the veterans administration as a primary medical source.Any replies, ideas would be greatly appreciated.God Bless....[/b]

mkorey, I am very sorry about your father's cancer. I was my mother's and father's primary care provider during their last months. I know how hard it can be at times. Hospice can be very helpful. I do not know the the VA has its own hospice service or if they contract with local hospice agencies for that service. You should ask for a referral.

Your father is in my thoughts and prayers.
