Hello,

About two weeks ago I was told that my November/07 pap came back abnormal (LGSIL). I have had a pap test every year since I was 15 (so 6 years) and they have all been normal. My doctor said she wanted to refer me to a gyno for a colpscopy and biopsy (which is what the lab report suggested). It took about two weeks for me to even get in for an appointment and when I went in (apparently) I went in on the wrong day for my appointment. The receptionist asked if I wanted to schedual a colpscopy without talking with the gyno first and so I did. I did however talk with her first and she like my doctor said that LGSIL takes years and years to develop into cancer IF it even does. I was told that most times LGSIL corrects itself. Which brings me to my questions...

I personally do not want to go through this procedure if it isn't really necessary. What I mean is, would it really hurt me to wait for another 6-12 months and have another pap test and if at that time it is still abnormal have the procedure done then? I am only 21 years old and, statistics show that the younger you are the better chance that it will go away on it's own. I am terrified of needles (and have to go under general anestetic) if I decide to go through with the colpscopy.

Could any one please help me out? I am completely confused as to whether I should really have this procedure done or if I should wait another few months to see if it gets better on it's own???

Thanks very much
Katie

Katie-

Fisrstly i'm sorry about the news of your abnormal smear.

secondly- DO IT! (a little over the top i know, but worth it.)

Read my story, it's in my signature. It will tell you everything and anything, i've gone through.
Such as the colpscopy. It is usually not done under a general (check that out again- thats really weird) It's like a pap smear, but they use a tiny camera to look, and magnify the cervix. It is just like a pap smear and rarely cause any pain- just a little uncomfotable. I have also had the biopsies and same again, just a little uncomfortable feeling....a tiny pain- but quick.

I wish you do have this, because it will determin, excautly where you are in stages etc.

Whether it take ages or not- it is still something that can turn cancerous. Is it really worth waiting?? (I think not) - after reading and replying to many many people in this Forum, you tend to realsis how lucky (we) are to be able to advoid, change our dignoises. and have treatment straight away.

It might be as simple as a day surgery laser. Or cell removal, or maybe more- But from me- one who has lived and and Is.... Do it. Wink

Like everything- it's your choice Katie, and your life. Choose to have one.

Feel free to Pm, me or chat here. Kat, and others will hopefuly reply- they too have had treatment, and can uderstand how you are feeling.

Let us know how your doing. Thinking of you.
