This is my first time posting. My dad got Melanoma 14 years ago. The stupid cancer came back about a year ago in his lungs and stomach. He got on this amazing oral chemo that made us think everything was going to be okay. However after I got back from Christmas at home my dad collapsed and now the cancer has spread to his brain. My mom was a nurse and is amazing. We are receiving at home hospice help as well. I am going home next week. I just don't know what to do. I really don't want to give up and I'm feeling pretty bad. Is there anybody out there?
thx

Little Bit, I am very sorry about your father's cancer recurrence. My heart is broken to hear that often 14 years it has recurred in such a devastating way. I can only imagine how bad you are feeling.

Try to make the most of your time with your father. Is he still alert enough to talk with you or to at least know that you are with him? If so, he will be comforted by your presence.

You and your father are in my thoughts and prayers.

thank you for all the kind words. I feel better today. Do you think Holistic methods might save him? I have everything from meditation to apricot pits.

Little Bit, I am totally in favor of Holistic Medicine. However, my definition of Holistic may not be the same as for others. My definition is that Holistic medicine addresses all the needs of the patient, not just the physical needs but also the mental, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. It does include alternative and complimentary treatment options. Having said that, I am strongly against apricot kernels because they contain cyanide-type compounds that can be very dangerous. To be fair, there are a lot of people that swear by their benefits. Nevertheless, there is no scientific evidence of their effectiveness.

Thank you both! I am looking through the Melanoma web page now. Very interested in the diet - I am going to see my family on Thursday and will be doing alot of the cooking.

Actually went to church on Sunday and prayed alot. I hope through prayer and meditation I can get through to the higher power.

Take care,
little bit

Thank you so much for your response. my uncle was diagnosed with the same cancer as my dad - so I will forward the information to him. My dad past away last week. There wasn't much I could do by the time I got there the cancer had moved so fast he couldn't speak and could barely eat. I will miss him and appreciate everyone's help.

So - let's get rid of this disease! I have learned alot about it. My father and my Uncle - who was recently diagnosed are genetically tested and the good news is that if Melanoma doesn't kill you - it actually is a gene that helps you live longer! I have chosen not to be tested - because of the stupid healthcare system that might drop me. I would love to know what to do to help out.

I also picked up the book crazy sexy cancer - I admire this wonderful women and I hope anyone dealing with cancer will pick it up. I actually laughed about it.

My dad let me know it was ok that he was dying. He hugged me and I meditated and ask for his help. He said in my minds eye that everyone is ready in the moment the that is comes. He died three minutes after my sister got in from Paris. I think it was a decision. I believe he lives on in every one he effected. He was a minister and an activist and worked in habitat for humanity. I hope I can live that well. Thank you again, little bit
