:?: I have been reading the posts recently because I am concerned about my husband who is 50 years old and has smoked at least 2 packs per day for 32 years. He has a smokers cough (he's had that for years) but it seems to be worse. His voice also gets hoarse from time to time for no apparent reason. Recently, he has been complained of aches. You know, the kind you get with the flu (body aches) but doesn't have any other flu symptoms. His aches are mainly in his neck, shoulders, and arms. He never goes to the doctor and doesn't think there is anything wrong with him. I am worried about these symptoms. Do they sound as bad as I think. Thanks for any input.

ddenisehlt, I am very sorry about your husband's condition. Unfortunately, I cannot tell whether or not your husband has cancer. At the same time, I do wish that he would go to a doctor to get checking out. Whatever is causing his symptoms will probably just get worse without proper treatment.

You and your husband are in my thoughts and payers.

Hi,

I'm sorry you find yourself worried about your husband. I'm sure this is exasperating for you.

He does need to get to a doctor to have things checked out. I know how difficult these men can be. Confused

We all get aches and pains as we get older, but it's better to know what is going on than to not know.

Has he had recurring bouts of pneumonia or bronchitis? That seems to be an early indicator of lung disease. I get the coughing, and yes, it has gotten worse over the years. I don't smoke nearly the amount that he does though. He could also have polyps in his throat, which causes a raspy voice. Could be COPD, throat/neck cancer, lung cancer, heart issues, or simple aging. Nobody can tell you without tests. Too many question marks.

Drag him to the doctor, even if he is kicking and screaming.

Good luck and let us know.

PBJ
