Anyone had Adjuvant Interferon Immunotherapy? What is this ?

I had (3mm) melanoma on my right thigh that was removed by surgery along with a nearby sentinel lymph node (also found to have melanoma cells). A second surgery removed 6 additional lymph nodes found to be clear of cancer cells. A full body PET/CT scan was done and no cancer found. Now the Oncologist presented a treatment called AII. It takes a year and can produce severe side affects. I am reluctant to take this treatment. Anyone had experience with this procedure or any advise?

I am at the same junction. I don't think anyone can give advice on this other then you.

This is a hard choice. Get a second opinion or do some research on it. It sure is scary to know something so little could cause so much damage.

Hello Jotto,
Thank you very much for you answer. I read you posts and I'm very happy to hear that options other than interferon were offered to you. The thought of AII scares me. I send a e-mail to M D Anderson last Friday for a second opinion. A lady called me the same day. When she gets my reports she is going to call me for an appointment.

Hi edcaroleg. I am so sorry about your cancer. From what I have heard, AII is not all that bad with few side effects. It helps boost your immune system so that your own body can fight the cancer cells better.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Just a thought - would the clinic offering the treatment be able or prepared to put you in touch with anyone who has had it?
