Hi - I am a lucky prostate cancer survivor and am looking for a cancer treatment center in my area who offers Color-flow Doppler Ultrasound exam.
I have had my yearly exam and radiation treatments at Dattoli Cancer Institute in Sarasota Florida up till now, but due to the increasing expense to travel, I would like to continue follow-up exams/treatments in the Atlanta area. I live in Belton, SC which is about 2-1/2 hrs from Atlanta.

Here is my brief medical history:
April 2003
- PSA test elevated at 21
- Exam and Biopsy by Urologist. Biopsy was positive; Gleason Score of 6 (3+3) present in 50% of the left-sided cores.
September 2003
- Palladium 103 implants (brachytherapy ) by Dr. Dattoli of the Dattoli Cancer Center, Sarasota, FL)
January 2004
- post-seeding IG-IMRT (Image-Guided Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy ) radiation treatments at Dattoli Cancer Center, Sarasota, FL
November 2004, 2005, 2006
- Follow-up exams at Dattoli Cancer Institute. Included:
Color-flow Doppler Ultrasound exam with 3D reconstruction.
Helical CT Pelvis
Helical CT Abdomen
Helical CT Chest
QCT for bone density

The color-flow doppler ultrasound, I know, is only done by a few treatment facilities.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Pete,
Have you checked the Radiotherapy Clinic of Georgia? I'm scheduled March 14th for my annual check up with Dr. Dattoli. I have been informed that Medicare will no longer cover the Color-Flow Doppler Ultrasound/3/D or the Helical CT Pelvis, Abdomen, Chest that we normally get with our annual check up.
God Bless,

Charlie - thanks for the reply. Yes, I was informed of the same thing; that Medicare will not cover any of the costs for the followup annual physicals. I think the most important one is the Ultrasound and will probably just do that.
Also a little scared of too much radiation from CT scans; I have had many as you probably have.
Do you know if the Georgia Clinic does the Color-Flow Doppler Ultrasound/3/D ?
Thanks again for you input and good luck to you.

Pete,
I don't know, but their tollfree number is 1 800 952 7687. Hope you can find a color doppler a little closer to you. Good luck.

Charlie I called Radiotherapy Clinic of Georgia. They do not do the CFD Ultrasound. From what I have read so far, there are only a handful of clinics in the US that do this. I will probably go back to Datolli.
Thanks for your input.

Hi guys, I have no information about the CFD ultrasound but just an opinion or suggestion about follow up testing... see if your local doctors and hospitals have a benevolence fund that you can apply for. If you qualify, it might at least help a little with the cost. _________________ Jim
