I had my entire stomach removed last May and am still having problems eating. I was wondering if there was anyone out there that can give me any tips and or advice on how to cope. I am on anti nausea drugs, maxeran and nexium. Some days are ok, when I can eat little bits , but some days nothing sits right and I end up retching or just suffering. Please, any information would be great. You can post here or email me.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I would eat very small portions and eat several times a day. Thats what I was told to do by my Doctor after mine. Mine was different than yours but I bet the same thing applies. I hope this helps. Also, I would stay away from breads & Rolls or anything that expands when you eat it. _________________ I have been through a gastrectomy in 2004. My story is posted on Jan. 2nd 2007 - Please read. |

There are a number of high protein drinks like Ensure and others used by weight builders that might help you. If you do not like straight Ensure, try to make a milk shake with:
1 can of Ensure (ice cold)
1 cup of ice cream
1 cup of fruit of your choice
1 some milk to adjust its consistency
Blend. _________________ Jim

Not sure if this will help but.....
Drinks and milkshakes with protein might help- and slowly thinken them- more ice cream etc.
Soups, etc. and just gradulaly increase the thickness. Also small tiny meals ever hour or so. a mouthful at a time.
My son had alot- still does with stomach and food and keeping things down etc. specialist recommended it and was great. Also heard that here too.
good luck _________________ Thinking of you Inica

My mother had the same operation and as well as the protien drinks she could mangage stewed fruits such as apple with icecream. If you want a variety of very small amount of foods my mother used to have small jars of puried baby food and she said that gave her variety and not too much of the same thing. Taking very small amounts of food about 8 - 10 times a day worked best for her.
Hope this helps. It was some years ago and I'm sure much had changed by now.
