Hello. My name is Doris, age 69, was dx in Oct 2002, still on watch and wait.
I've never been given any of my lab reports, so can't post any numbers. In fact, I don't know too much about my labs. I was told last week that my WBC was elevated more and so were my Lymph (whatever that means). My only symptom seems to be fatigue. For the previous years that wasn't so big a problem, but this past year, I have days when I'm really wiped out. Is this usual?
I'd love to know what types of questions I should be asking my dr, particularly with regard to labs. He did tell my that my immune system continues to decline which was a bit of concern to him. I get a lot of bronchial and lung problems.....in the past, I rarely ever caught a cold. Now when I do, it takes several rounds of antibiotics and, sometimes, steriods, to clear it.
I've been reading many of your posts and have gleaned a lot of information.....hope you can give me more information and advice.
Thanks.

Hi Doris. I am very sorry for your Leukemia. Do you know which type of Leukemia do you have? My guess is that it is CLL, the chronic form of Leukemia sense you have not been sicker.

My father died of ALL (acute). He was in his late 70's when they finally diagnosed him. He was in and out of the hospital multiple times.

The doctors will rarely just give you your lab results; you need to ask for them. I was my father's care provider and drove him to the doctor and hospital when he needed to go. I made sure the medical team made a copy for the lab results and give the copy to me. After a while, they knew that I wanted the copy and they started to give it to me without me even asking.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you for you warm welcome, Jim. Yes, I have CLL.
And I will begin asking more questions and for copies of my reports.

Hi Dobo, sorry to hear about your Dx. I know it sounds bad right now but from what I have seen at the Dr.s office a lot of the people with CLL are able to live quite a while with little side effects. I am not sure how aggressive you Leukemia is and that is what makes the differance.
One thing you will want to ask is what are the chances of it turning from Cronic to Acute.
I went through my treatments with a lady that had CLL for 11 years. She controlled it with various med.s and Chemo.
Keep us informed.
I will keep you in my prayers.
