Hi everyone
new round here and as the title says, I'm really really scared. here's my story
I'm a 28 y/o male, due to get married to a wonderful woman in 6 months time. i was diagnosed with this horrible disease dept 1.6 and not ulcerated on the small of my back. I had an wider excisson a week after and snb. the doctor at the time aid the op went great and to him the gland looked fine. got the results of the biopsy today and despite the docs initial hopes it came back positive. at the time i also had a ct scan. now my doc wasn't there and what i was told from his student has me both confused and terrified. the ct showed the only place effected was my groin area except for a tiny spec of something (3mm) showing up in my lung. she says they are unsure if its related to the melanoma. i due in for a groin dissection next week and will be able to talk to my own doctor then. I'm unsure what stage this is. being reading this site today.
looking for honest answer here, if its bad news on my lung does that make me a stage4 and living with a life sentence.
thank 4 reading |

I am not an expert in this by any means, I only know what I learned when my mom was Diagnosed with a melanoma. First of all the nodule on your lung could be anything, and chances are pretty good thats it is not a melanoma with the depth being so low. If it is a melanoma on your lung pulmonary metestasis have the best prognosis of any stage 4. I have read many success stories of people living NED for over 10 years with single metastasis to the lung. I know it is hard, but I would try your best not to worry about it until you know that its actually soemthing to worry about. Hopefully your Dissection turns up the rest of your nodes clean and the nodule on your lung is just that, a beneign nodule. Try to do your best not to follow statistics, they are just that, and every person is different.
praying for you! |

I can't say anything about the grion area, mine was under the arm. I had the SNB done and it came back positive, 9 more were removed and all came back negative. I had stage IIIb, they got it all, but there is a high reaccurance rate with this.
I think about a couple I meet while at MD Anderson, she had the SNB come back negative and almost 5 years later it returned. She is now going through chemo, I wonder what the results would have been had she done chemo at that time, or would it have made a difference. At her stage I don't think chemo was even offered since it hadn't spread. I am leaning towards taking the chemo, I just need to do a bit more research on the subject. I know I can fight the effects, but then I worry that I won't be able to.
Talk with your doctors, get as much information as possible. I think the decision of what to do is what you feel best with. For the last 3 months I have researched alot of Pubmeds concerning this and the type of treatments that are available. Clinical trials that have been conducted and what the results were, they are from around the world. Long term results are limited. Interferon is the only approved medical procedure, the rest are trials to see what works and what doesn't. Its hard to take your mind off this, but make it a point to take your mind off of it. Look at all the positive and keep a good attitude.
My prayers are with you.
Jim
Keep the faith, we all have too much to live for. |
