I have created a new category for helpful information and have moved the Pain Forum and Financil Issues Forum to that cateragory.

I have also created a new forum for members to ask about nutritional suggestions, to share recipes you have found helpful, and other nutrition related topics. The general rule about staying on topic applies to this new forum as well. However, the "No Hijacking" policy will be a little more lax. In other words, it someone has already started a topic on Soups that are good during recovery from Colon surgery, you are encouraged to post to it if you have other suggestions on that topic.

Some ideas for carers

How to cope with emotional issues like supporting family and friends who are not the primary carers, how carer's could approach raising difficult issues like wills and end of life choices etc

How to address emotions like anger, denial etc in a respectful way as a carer.

Suggestions for the things that have been joyful yet not required too much effort eg sitting watching the birds fly through the sprinkler as you water the lawn on warm evenings.

It is difficult to think of other topics as this forum is excellent already.

PostPosted: Mon Mar 24, 2008 7:34 pm    Post subject: Questions to ask Dr Reply with quote

Perhaps someone (I'm thinking Jim) could start a thread with some suggestions for questions to be asked regarding treatment, chemo, radiation, etc.
I know from the brain tumour thread that members have asked this particular question on occasion "What questions do I need to ask of Dr at diagnosis?"
I realised this is a very broad question to ask with many different cancers but perhaps we could separate questions into categories such as:

Brain tumour questions
Lung cancer questions
Pancreatic cancer questions, etc

Cheers, Angie.

Angie, some forums already have something like that in a sticky note. Leo wrote one for Breast Cancer and Dr. Tanguy wrote one for Head and Neck but something like that should be in every forum, I agree. I know that the new version of phpBB (the program that is used to build this Message Board) has the option of setting "rules" for each forum individually. Maybe when the new forum gets here we can do that more systematically.

Are you getting a new forum. If yes, will it have more features to use.

I am a little late on this post but I totally agree with Dorothy. I am currently having a problem as the wife of a cancer patient as to just how to deal with this and be supportive.

When to jump in and when not. When to speak and when to be quiet. (I bet you guys love reading thst. I know my husband would). Seriously, I am learning these things the hard way.

My husband and I try to protect each other I think. Whether to pursue conversation or letting it happen. These are just suggestions for now. Don't answer here.

If in time each type of cancer had the sticky on questions to ask that would be very good.

I bet there is a lot of stuff that you all could share that would help others before they learn the hard way. I know that there are a lot ot things not cut and dry but I am thinking of things that are.

Mary, Leo has someone working on a new version of the forum. All information including posts will be moved to the new forum... hopefully with no loss of continuity or information. Not sure how many new features it will have. I am hoping that it will have some features like a normal website, a chatroom, more avatars (ribbons for all cancers, for example).... However, I do not know if there is a target date for the new forum.

As an administrator, I hope it has some additional tools to cut down on the robot members.

Jim,

Hear! Hear! I mentioned that to my son and he said there are all kinds of programs to nuke robot posters. I think we may be in the stone-age. Wink It probably is integrated into the whole program, but I don't really know squat about programming and all of that jazz.

Thanks for the response. That sounds good. You just may be in the stone ages. Laughing

I am sure there are reasons. I belong to a couple forums that are just 'very much' like this. Other than having a problem with too many graphics being posted, if no rules for sizing, it has a lot of good features. I have rarely, if ever, seen a spammer on them.

I do go to another very different kind of forum and they, too, are always deleting spam. It is usually just someone selling something or those kind that are all weird looking letters and no meaning to us.

That is encouraging knowing there is a new one to come. Good luck with it all.
