Hi,
I have just been diagnosed with metastases from a previous breast cancer a year ago, to my lung, liver and brain.
Can anyone out there help with diet cancer plans?
Thank you so much |

Hi, VLC - so sorry that the beast is growling.
Do you mean diets to counter cancer?
There is much discussion about this, and very little hard evidence. The most general position would be to avoid red meats and dairy as much as possible, to increase intake of pulses and grains, vegetables and fruit, and to investigate what trace element supplements will be required.
The extreme position is something like the Gerson regime, which is time consuming, expensive and requires great commitment, being based on a high level of juicing.
There is an argument going on as to whether "organic" produce is better for you, which again is unproven. However, where possible I do prefer to use it as I know that it has to be produced to a stringent criterion and without chemicals or antibiotics. If I can get home-grown vegetables or fruit, then I grab them with a big smile.
Whatever you do, make sure your medical team know all about it. |

Thank you so much for your prompt reply.
I am indeed trying to detox my body. Have completely changed my diet, to veggies, some organic, plenty of salads and fruit. Specially strawberries and grapes.
I did update my diet change to my oncologist, but her answer was "If you fancy a roast chicken have it"
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks again |

VLC,
I am so sorry to hear of the spread....
Yes, it may be so that there isn't much DIRECT evidence to suggest that so-called cancer diets/foods help with cancer, but there is far too much that suggests that it makes sense to change one's diet to help your body best help itself by eating what it needs in a health manner. In fact, there are plenty of nutritionists, medical professionals, cancer survivors, some well-known cancer centers that believe that diet can and does help.
> Low or NO FAT (not necessarily need to eliminate all meat, but definitely decrease it and if you can, eliminate it. Get protein from beans, soy, nuts)
> Eat Fish
What you are doing can only help your own immune system participate in the battle more efficiently.
My prayers are with you.
