I finally got my records to MDA Orlando after having to go to my derm's office and find out that they sent my records to the wrong fax number.

So I called the patient referral line at MDA and they asked if I had scheduled a wide excision with a surgeon. I explained that I had just been told that I was being referred to them and that I assumed that would be done there. She said that the wide excision would have to be done prior to me being seen at MDA. I am soo confused. She did give me a number for a surgical group that is affiliated with MDA. So I guess I have to schedule an appointment to be seen by this group.

I really wonder if my derm has ever had to refer anyone to MDA before because they really don't have a clue about the whole process.

Is there anyone who has dealt with MDA Orlando. Does this sound right??

Any input??

thanks

Erin

I'm not familiar with MDA Orlando but I do know that I go to 4 different doctors for my melanoma.

The surgical oncologist does the "cutting" or excising.
The oncologist does the chemo and immuno treatments.
The dermatologist keeps track of checking for exterior signs of melanoma.
And lastly, the radiology oncologist handles the radiation treatments.

My oncologist is with Northwest Cancer Specialists.
Everyone else is at the Oregon Health and Science University.

Not sure if this helps or not. I know I do a lot of running around on the days I have appointments.

ehowie, where you being referred to MD Anderson for a special treatment protocol? All research projects have to define the type of patient who can participate in the study. It sound like you called the wrong number or that you are supposed to be a part of a treatment protocol the requires a wide excision first. Just my guess... My advice is to call your dermatologist and ask him/her what is going on.
