I want to ask about any side effects that a person would have AFTER completion of a round of Chemo and radiation treatments.

My husband's last radiation was April 15th and last chemo was April 2nd. He was quite sick at times during these 6 weeks. He was not too bad once he finished the chemo. Today has not been a good day for him. Will this continue for some time. I didn't think it would be this bothersome and yet my son is not surprised.

It is my understanding that much of the treatment is still working. Is this correct? I am trying to understand. That was part of my understanding on waiting to do surgery too.

He also has a couple spots on his head that are very sensitive to touch tonite. They were sort of bothering him. There is nothing there that we can see. He never lost his hair but his hair is thin normally and easy to look. Just before he went to sleep he felt a feeling was spreading some. Hard for me to word what he shared. Any ideas? His treatments were all on his lungs.

Thanks,

Dear Mary

I have been reading your story about your Husband & wanted to let you know my prayers & thoughts are with you. What a journey (bumpy ride) it's been for you both!! I agree that this will be one of the hardest things one has to face in life! I pray you continue to be resilient & steadfast on this journey.
I have heard that radiation & chemo do continue working for a month or more after stopping treatment. I would also like to share my experience with chemo (a few years ago) I did have alot of hair loss (not complete). My scalp was very sore & tender for quite some months during & after the treatment finished. Perhaps this is similar to what your Hubby is feeling since his treatment?

How long will the surgeon wait before your Husband has surgery? I pray & hope for a positive outcome for him.

Cheers & hugs,
Angie.

Hi Angie, Thanks so much for your response, encouragement and prayers. I read your reply but then we have had so much company that I didn't get back online to thank you. I do agree it is a rough road to be on. Never knew just how difficult it could be.

My husband saw his Oncology Dr after my post and Dr also confirmed what you shared. My husband did pull up on his hair and some did come out. His hair is pretty thin and he keeps it really short so not a big deal like with the ladies. It all made sense.

Surgeon is waiting 4 to 6 weeks after treatment stopped. Surgery would be mid to late May. If not then, has to wait until 2nd week of June as she will be off a week and doesn't want to do the surgery and then leave. I sure appreciate that. More often that is what happens. The reason for the waiting is so that the treatment will continue working as you stated.

We are very thankful that we have the option of surgery now. Hopefully he will pass the PFT and then get thru the surgery without problems.
