I have/had invasive malignant melonma on my upper arm. I had more surgery after the biopsy. Found out today the the results were clear! Great news! I have no swelling, wieght loss, or breathing problems and as I said the newest biopsy came back clear! But other Doctors that my Doc talk to want me to go to another cancer clinic a couple hundred miles away and remove some lymnods! So why sould I submit myself to more surgery? My Doc wants me to take a few days to think about it. What do you think of this ?

Hi Greeny. Let me ask you one question just to clarify what you are saying. What do you mean by "clear"? Do you mean there was no cancer in the biopsy? Or do you mean that the biopsy had clear margins? There is a significant difference in those two meanings of "clear." It sounds like there were cancer cells present in the biopsy but that the margins where clear. That would explain why the second doctor wants you to have your lymph nodes biopsied.

I don't know much about spindle melanoma, you will need to do some research on that part.

Jim asked about the SLNB, was this performed? ELND hasn't shown to be any benifit for melanoma. Usually the SLNB is done at the same time of the operation. If the SLNB comes back negative then nothing further needs to be done, but this is for my type of melanoma. That was quite a large section on your arm to be removed.

There is nothing wrong with getting a second opinion, I am going to MD Anderson with my son for a second opinion before I allow them to remove anything.
