my background: I'm nineteen in college.
my friend's background: nineteen in college, football player, about 6'5 and 270lbs. eats healthy, exercises, built of muscle. also has history of depression.
my friend recently told me he has pancreatic cancer and has 3-6 months. I'm shocked. however, his girlfriend recently broke up with him and he does NOT handle breakups well (to the point of suicide). he has moved out of college and gone back home for an unknown reason (he said our college screwed up his tuition and withdrew him from classes). last night, he texted me saying he has cancer. I don't know what to do. how likely is it for someone his age to have this cancer? I'm so scared he does, but I'm scared that he may be lying and using this as a goodbye for suicide. I don't know his family or anything, and I don't know what to do. I'm afraid to confront him in case he really does have this cancer, or if he's severely depressed. is this possible in healthy, sport-playing teens? also, since he's so healthy, why would they have scanned him for this at all? I'm so worried about him.
and if so, what can I do to help him? I've only had older family members with cancer, never a close friend. I want to make his life as awesome as possible while I still can. |

This is a very perculair request on the PC Forum. I would think that you are burden with your friends admission of what is happening in his life. There is an easy solution and that is to give his parents a call to see how he is doing. With a little prodding you can find out how ill he is and how he is handling this.
I don't know of anyone at this age with PC. It may be possible, but if it just came up out of the blue, I would think it was not true. Good luck with your friend and take care,

| thank you very much, I've gotten this response from a few people now. I'm not sure how to reach his parents, but I will try to. I just found it strange that everything was fine before his girlfriend broke up with him, and now he's left college, has cancer, etc. thanks very much for your input, I really appreciate it. |

broadwayblue, I am very sorry about your friend. While there is no way to know for sure, I think your best responce to him should be to believe him. If he does have PC, there is not much you can do for him but to be the best friend you can possibly be.
You and your friend are in my thoughts and prayers. _________________ Jim
