I can't believe what a horrible and debilitating disease pancreatic cancer is. My dad was over six feet tall and weighed about 180 pounds. He wasted down to nothing. He couldn't eat at the end. He passed away on March 30, 2008. When my husband was ill with colon cancer, my dad was my anchor. He was always there for me even after my husband passed away. I miss him so much but I wouldn't want him to keep suffering. I know he is at home when his Lord Jesus Christ and he is no longer in pain.

My brother, sister, my daughter and I told him it was okay to let go and go home to heaven. We told him we would take care of my Mom. Even though he was on morphine every hour orally, I know he heard us because he raised his eyebrows and moved his mouth.

I will always miss him but I have such precious memories to treasure. I was Daddy's girl.

Dear Bluek

I am very sorry to hear about your Dad's passing, I have heard that Pancreatic Cancer is an awful cancer. My sympathies to you & your family.

My Dad too was "larger than life"! Over 6 ft & a BIG man. I am feeling your pain. Please know my prayers & thoughts are with you. A quote from my Dad's Honour Mass/service:

"HE CAME IN SILVER SANDALS & TOOK HIM GENTLY AWAY"

We have a "memorial wall" thread here & perhaps when you feel "up to it" you can honour your Dad & his life on this thread too.

God bless, Angie.

Angie,
Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. I am sorry about your Dad. What caused his passing?
I will tell my family about you. I know that my Dad is in a beautiful place. I'm sure your Dad is there too.

It is so hard to lose your parents. My Mom is still living. She is 88 years old. She is taking this real hard because they were married for 61 years.
Do you still have your Mom? I know what my mom is going through because I lost my husband three years ago to colon cancer. It is so hard when you lose your spouse. I am trying to be with my Mom as much as I can.

I posted my Dad and my husband on the Memorail wall. What a wonderful idea.

May the Lord bless and keep you.

bluek, I am very sorry about your father's and husband's death! How terrible to have lost two very important people to this terrible disease.

Yes, Pancreatic Cancer is one of the worst possible cancers because of all the very bad symptoms and because it is so hard to tread.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Jim,

Thank you so much for your kind thoughts and prayers.

I read your story. I am amazed by all that you have been through. You are truly blessed.

I appreciate it that you replied to my post. I am trying to get my life back together. I retired from teaching full time but I still substitute teach. I am going back to work tomorrow for the first time since my Dad passed away. He was in the hospital or nursing home for nine months. I felt so drained and exhausted when he passed away. My husband struggled with colon cancer for fourteen months. I was his primary caregiver along with my son and daughter. I continued to teach full time while taking care of him. The last six weeks of his life he was in ICU at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. I had to keep working to keep the health
insurance in force. His mother and sister didn't come to see him or help much with his care for about the last six months on his life. I called them and they came to see him on the day he died. I think he was trying to hold on until he saw them again.

Any way, I guess I had better close for now. I will keep you in my prayers and I hope that things continue to improve for you.

May the Lord bless and keep you.
Hang in there!

Dear Bluek,

I'm so sorry about your Father. My Dad passed away with pancreatic cancer in January this year, so I understand some of your loss. I still find it difficult to believe, as like your Father, my Dad was larger than life as well - fishing, hunting, camping etc. I miss him so much, but I can say that every day gets easier.

I'm sorry that you lost your Husband as well. It seems that life gives us such hardships for no reason.

I believe that my parents are finally together again, and I hope your Father and Husband are sitting somewhere having a good chat and swapping stories and all of our loved ones are all watching over us.

Also remember to take care of yourself too, you've had it too hard for too long.

Bluek, you are in my thoughts,

Queensland Girl

It is so good to hear from you. I am sorry about your Dad. It was so hard to see this strong man taken down by such an awful illness.

It is good to hear that it gets easier as the days go by. I hope that you are doing well.
Thank you for your kind words. I am trying to take care of myself. I have a special needs daughter that I need to stay well for so I can be there for her. She is living with me. We are very close and spend a lot of time together. I am the only parent she has left so I have to take care of myself.

May God bless and keep you.
