Hi petrit,
I try to keep my story in one place (click on the link in my signature block) in order not to hijack someone else's topic. However, I am doing fine... just a little right sided weakness (loss of strength and dexterity in my right hand) and a stutter a lot. I also fall easily so I do not climb ladders anymore. Otherwise, life is good.
While I have heard about RUTA 6 and flax oil, I have never used either so I cannot comment on them. I tend to stay away from truly alternative or complementary therapies. I do take a number of vitamins every day but I cannot say they work. I just hope they are doing something to help maintain a healthy level a essential vitamins and minerals in my system. _________________ Jim

Dear Petrit
I have been re-reading your post about your Father & was wondering how he is?
Has the treatment been going OK for him, has he handled the radiation & how is the chemo going?
You are in our thoughts & prayers. I hope you & your family are all coping OK & staying strong & positive for your Dad.
God's blessings, Aussie Angie. _________________ Brother has GBMIV

Hi petrit, I am glad that your father if finally getting temadol. In the USA, that is the "gold standard" chemotherapy for primary brain cancers. It has fewer side effects than what I took, which was a three pronged attack commonly known as PCV... a combination of procarbazine, CCNU (lomustine) and vincristine given in a six week cycle. The actual chemo took up the first two week but was followed by a four week break so that my body could recover. Except for the vincristine, the other two were pills that I took at home.
I am not sure what the cycle is for temadol but I think it is a one month cycle with treatment on the first week and then three weeks off. I think it is given by IV so your father will have to go into a clinic to receive it.
I continue to thing about and pray for you and for your father. _________________ Jim

Hello Jim I hope u are well and in good spirits. As i mentioned oncologist is off the table. I have to give 5 days by 300mg dose and hope & pray that evrything will go fine. I know its sound grazy but when u live in Kosovo thats what u get (poor hospitals) and we dont have radiation institute so no oncologist. Radiation was done in Macedonia which is next to Kosovo. Scheme for temodal they done it aswell , so i have to give temodal at home ..
Hope u well
p.c
I am in London UK for moment so I will like to speak to u before I fly back in 3 days time .

Dear Petrit,
My brother has been taking Temodal (at home) since Mar this year for his GBMIV. He takes the tablet form & the dosage has varied since he started. I don't know what dosage he takes at the moment but he is on a 4 week cycle of chemo. He takes Temodal for 5 days & then has 23 days off. In the beginning he was taking chemo tablet daily. He also had some radiation but didn't react well to this trreatment & tumour grew "out of control" whilst doing radiotherapy.
I'm sorry to hear the hospital system is so poor in Kosovo, stay strong for your Dad & family & may God Bless you in this terrible "journey" with your Dad.
My thoughts & prayers are with you. Cheers, Aussie Angie. _________________ Brother has GBMIV

Petri, it is so good to hear from you again. I am glad your father's treatments are going so well. I have not used RUTA 6 but think that it is a good compliment to standard chemotherapy.
With me everything is still about the same.... my condition is stable for a while anyhow.
My regards to you and your father. _________________ Jim

hello to Jim and to everybody on the forum
just to let u know my father is doing fine , still on chemo 5th cycle so not major problems for now, apart from a little confusion which he had from before surgery but now less.
he had an MRI last month the docs are not sure if is still any tomur left but very visible a place where tumor was (anaplastic astrocytoma 3 size of mandarine )
He has coped very well with Temodar so overall is condition is stable , no working yet apart from work in garden and walking the dog.
Still takes dexethamsone at very low dosage 20 mg per day.
Just wondering about confusion specially with names , and before he was very good at crosswords now he just cant do them. our oncolog asked him to work a bitt more with his brain like restart kind of a thing but he just cant cope with that , I think he doesn accept the fact for example that before he used to fill crosswords very quick now will take much longer to do crosswords so he just gives up.
Hope u well Jim
and wish noone has these Beast |

Hi petri, it is so good to get this update about your father! I am glad the chemotherapy is not causing any major side effects. I do hope he continues to improve.
Best wishes. _________________ Jim

Hi Petri, glad to hear your father is coping well with his chemo. My partner didn't cope that well and they had to keep his dose quite low. I know from experience with my partner - it is very frustrating when it takes them a while to work things out. My partner still has trouble with certain things and one of them is faces when he is out and about. It does take time for the brain waves to settle and especially having different medicines etc. My partner Andrew has improved tremendously since his op / radio / chemo (he was diagnosed with GBMIV in May 06). Still has trouble but nowhere near as much. Hope your father keeps improving. Enjoy every day. My thoughts and love are with you all. Jen. _________________ Love to all. Jen.

I am so sorry to hear about the people who are battling or lost their battles to anaplastic astocytomas. My thoughts and One of my next-door neighbors was diagnosed with a grade III/IV anaplastic astocytoma in late 1999. He had surgery and radiation and chemo. He was given less than a year to live. It's been more than eight years since he was diagnosed. He does have some cognitive and mobility issues but he is alive.
