I’ve posted before, dad’s physician told me 81-year old dad has stage four lung cancer (won’t have biopsy-his decision) though physician said 85-90% confident it is lung cancer. He has 4cm mass and 6 nodules on other lung since last Nov. ‘07. No symptoms.

Dad has had “bumps” (irregular, brown, raised) on his face for probably over a month. He even thinks it’s melanoma, and I noticed today that one of the bumps was bleeding. If this is melanoma from the lung cancer, can you please explain to me what is happening? Has the cancer spread, to where, what should I be prepared for, how long? Any advice would be extremely helpful

Probably be best to have your dad have a biopsy done on his face. That would tell the doctors what is on his face. My dad has small cell lung cancer with mets to liver and bones.

SharRog, I am very sorry about your father's cancer.

Just a little clarification for you: IF your father does have melanoma, then it is very likely that he DOES NOT have lung cancer but that his melanoma has metastasized to his lungs... very common occurrence with melanomas. The treatment would be chemotherapy in either case. However, the type of chemotherapy agent used might be different. That is why is is very important that your father have the bumps on his face biopsied. Nevertheless, it is his choice.

You and your father are in my thoughts and prayers.

If he has lung cancer, it is also possible the that skin problems are metastatic. This is not skin cancer [melanoma] but the cancer acting on the epidermis. It is a tiresome condition, but can be contained. A biopsy will confirm if this is the case or not.
