My sister saw her oncologist and she asked for it straight. He told her one year maximum. They are going to try chemotherapy treatment for 12 weeks. She has Stage IV aggressive adenocarcinoma with poorly differentiated cells, whatever that means.

I am visiting her this weekend and am taking her to see my new grandson and out for lunch. It will be so hard, but I must be strong.

Sam,

I'm sorry, but it's best she and everyone concerned know the truth and move forward from there. My husband also had poorly differentiated cells, which means they are very mutated and more aggressive, and he lived over 2 1/2 years with multiple lines of treatment. Have hope that your sis will have some good days.

Hugs,
PBJ

I'm so sorry too. My mom has the exact same thing. She is not doing well right now but partly because of a bad fall that advanced progression of her disease. It has been 7 mos. My heart goes out to you......

samchaney, I am very sorry about your sisters cancer. All I have to offer is my take on "prognosis." If my prognosis had been correct, I should have died at least 5 years ago. I do like to know my prognosis but only in order to set priorities for those things that I would like to do with whatever time I still have left. It is not easy, but after setting my priorities, I try to set aside my prognosis and just live one day at a time working toward those goals. My current goal, among others, is to improve the services offered the the Cancer Forums be connecting it to a website. That should keep me going for several more year.

I am not saying that your sister's prognosis is wrong. For all anyone knows, she could die within a year. What I am suggesting is that you and your sister look realistically at the next year and determine what she would like to do with that time. As I see it, she has two options: 1. To live as if she is dieing or 2. to live as if she is living... if that makes any sense.

You and your sister are in my thoughts and prayers.
