I'm so sorry Caligirl. I know it is so hard. In a way though, it is also a blessing, isn't it? I was living with my mom and taking care of her before her passing in January and felt blessed taking care of her. It draws you even closer.
I suspect your mom's best friend may be feeling a little displaced and may be somewhat jealous of you and your mom's closeness. She is probably also hurting. It doesn't excuse her behaviour towards you though. My thoughts are with you as your journey winds down. Keep us posted and we are here for you. |

| Well, today has been really weird. Mom woke up with a ton of energy - but not right mentally. She tousled around since 430 this a.m. Wanted to get up and go to the store and wanted me to get her slippers and stuff. I asked her how she planned on doing that and she said "walk" (she has a broken hip). She was very frustrated with me and started crying. I gently told her that she cant walk - it was very sad. I did sit her up on the side of the bed. I have read about the body having a last expense on energy - I think that is what it was....she is now sleeping soundly.......my sisters family is coming out today to BBQ.....She loves that so we will do it even if she is not awake.. |

The body works in weird ways.
I hope you enjoy your BBQ and that the energy last a bit longer than a burst, so she can also enjoy it.

I concur with PBJ that your story is inspirational, beautiful, sad & will be a catalyst for many members on this forum.
This time that you have with your Mom will be the memories you will always treasure after she has gone to be with our Lord.

Well -
Yesterday was weird. Mom was pretty out of it - sleeping most of the day. By about 2'oclock her breathing was pretty labored and getting worse.
By 4 0'clock she started gettting severe apnea with 30 sec. periods of no breath and then very labored.
Called Hospice and they came out about 9:15. They said that she could expire at any moment but most likely by noon today. Then, SURPRISE- she rallied.....
Woke up this morning chipper as can be and said.....Last night when I was dying I saw all the grandkids smiling and I was so happy.....Did you all think I was dying, is that why everyone was here??
Then she started laughing and asked for breakfast.....She is so funny, she is this teeny little thing that has always so health conscience......
Is up and doing great and being her usual funny self (and already had lunch at 9 am).......
This is such a roller coaster, but we are just grateful to have her today....
Obviously, she is not following the normal patterns but..she never really has........ |

Obviously your dear Mom is not following the textbook and will do what she wants her way! Good for her and happy that you have these little surprises from a grand old gal!

Hospice nurse came out today. Mom was awake and alert all day till about 2. Even they said the all bets are off with my mom. They said they have seen people. rally a lot before but not this extreme from being on the brink of death to up and eating, drinking and laughing all day.
Nurse said this was bizarre.
It seems like the bad breathing is just starting again....
We'll see...... |

Here we go again,
Apnea getting worse again. Mom had a great day and I got her up on the side of the bed for about and hour and then later in the day got her (lifted her ) into the wheelchair outside where she sat for about an hour. She loved it. Just another "perfect day" if you ask her.
Tonight, as I am now watching her, I am getting about 20 sec. apnea again......I will just wait (drank a Redbull) and see if this progresses or she comes back around. Something tells me that 3 times is just too many to beat the odds, but you never know.....
She loved her day today........Her birthday is Mon. June 2nd |

My thoughts are with you during this waiting time. You are so brave that it touches my heart. It's interesting that you note her birthday as my Mom passed away 3 days after her 61st birthday. Sometimes I think they wait for certain special days or events. It's not uncommon. Bless your heart.
