Hey everyone-

My name is Lawrence and I live in San Diego.

About me:
I am a non-hodgkin's cancer survivor. I was first diagnosed with NHL when I was 19, in college. I went in for my physical which was required to participate in any sports and they decided to draw some blood. I thought that this was a normal routine. My doctor called me the next day and told me I needed to come into the office as soon as I was able to. So I did. That is when he told me that I had NHL. I was stunned and didn't believe him at first. He continued to talk but all I can think is how I can have cancer. How can I, at 19 have cancer. He told me the different treatment plans, and I told him I refused to do chemo...I didn't want to lose my hair. Since they caught the cancer at an early stage, he said that radiation may be the only thing I needed. After about 6 months of radiation, on April 15, I was told that I was in remission. GREAT NEWS...

For a while, I always felt as though I ashamed that I had cancer. Don't ask me why, I just did. I then hear of a friend who ran a marathon for people with leukemia and lymphoma society...and I thought that was awesome. So I joined as well.. I ran 4 marathons with the Society and all has been a life-rewarding thing. Now I am training for a triathlon.

The purpose of this post isn't for solicitation of donations but that of encouragement.

I want to encourage those who have survived or still fighting that there is a great life after...Throughout my treatment, I never thought that I can run and participate in endurance events. And now, I AM.

If you want to follow my progress for the training of the triathlon, you can read my blog which I try to update weekly...but not always so good at it.

Here's my blog: www.lawrencestri.blogspot.com

Thanks for reading.

Lawrence
