| Hi all...I am new to the forum, but not new to cancer. Almost a year since surgery for cervical cancer and now dealing with possibility of colon cancer. A little more than three years ago I had 5 very large adenomas(4-6cm) removed from my colon during colonoscopy. This was after at least three years of bleeding and misdiagnosis of IBS as the cause. I am on a three year colonoscopy "plan", and am scheduled for July 9th, but am scared to death because the bleeding has recurred...intermittently for the past year but constant for the past 8 days. That in and of itself did not scare me, but the fact that I have EXTREME abdominal cramps and nausea accompanying this set off an alarm. I can't get out of bed for a few hours after I wake up because the pain is so bad. It subsides as the day wears on and I am up and about, but this has gone on for 5 days now and tomorrow scares me to the point that I am awake now! Could they be unrelated? I am hoping...but my question is have any of you with a cancer diagnosis experienced these symptoms... and what was the outcome? My statistics...37...38 July 2nd...year old woman...onset of symptoms was 26 yrs old...history of IBS with constipation...not overweight. at all 5'6" 128 - 120 at onset..always high fiber low fat diet with at LEAST 30 minutes of cardio daily, usually an hour. I have held the hand of a 35 year old friend after his surgery for this and buried a 39 year ol friend because of... I realize this disease is not age specificic, but statistically I should not be a victim! Any advice would be so greatly appreciated! |

Sharon,
I wish you the best with your colonoscopy July 9th. I'm glad to hear you already have one scheduled.
Other than the bleeding I had none of the symptoms you describe.
But everyone is different, so I can't say those aren't symptoms.
I've had chemo, radiation and surgery.
My doctor tells me I'll need a pet scan every 3 months for the next 3 or 4 years.
Prayers & Hugs,

I know how you feel waiting. That is how I felt waiting for the resultz of my PET scans. I tried not to worry, but that was impossible.
Hopefully it's nothing, and if it is something, you are probably catching it early.

DJL, I see you found out about your cancer the same month I found out about mine. Except for the follow-up colonoscopy and PET scans, are you done with Chemo and everything? _________________ 10/01/07 - Removal of Stage III Colon Cancer Tumor and Temporary Colostomy

REB,
We discovered my cancer Oct 2, 2007.
I'm done with all treatment other than the pet scans every 3 months.
It's been rough healing from the surgery. I wasn't healing from the rectum removal in Jan. I lost so much weight they finally put me in the hospital in March and tube fed me. Then I gained some weight and started healing.
I'm doing much better now although I can't still can't sit for any great length of time.
Hugs,

I found out the day before you.
I am also done except for the PET scans and colonoscopy's once a year. I don't know how long those will be yearly. If it keeps the cancer from coming back, I'll do them as often as they'll let me.
I can't describe how thankful I am I came out of this alive and well. That day, last October, I thought I was a goner. I almost died from the blockage, and I had a 50/50% chance of dying in surgery. I had survived both of those, and then I found I had a Stage III cancer. I wasn't afraid to die (not too much anyway), but I regretted I wouldn't be there for my kids as they grew up.
If you had told me that day 8 months later I would be healthy again I wouldn't have believed you. I thought my life was over, but I was wrong. I had almost lost my faith that week, but instead, it became stronger, and so did my hope. _________________ 10/01/07 - Removal of Stage III Colon Cancer Tumor and Temporary Colostomy
