Hi Denise -

to answer your question on eating, I am on a low residue diet. I am avoiding all vegetables with fibre - they really give me bad gas pains.

Every day I eat a smoothie shake prepared with ingredients from the Center of Natural Healing, made with soy milk, soy protein, whey protein, vitamins, coconut powder and I can put some low fibre fruit in it - like soft peaches but no berries - nothing with seeds right now. This shake keeps me full for hours and goes through the ileostomy pretty easy. I also take several other herbal supplements throughout the day.

I had a consult with my Herbalist today and he is adding Nanogreens (this is another shake mix) to make up for the lack of green veggies.
He is also suggesting adding chamomile teas (anti inflammatory) to help with my bloated feeling (yeah - I did a LOT of complaining about the beached whale feeling).

For those of us having trouble sleeping, he is a big believer in the herb teas - especially "Sleepytime" from celestial seasonings - he says to use two bags and have it double strength so I am going to try that.

Like rotorhead - that ambient sleeping pill has also given me wierd dreams so I am trying to stay away from it now.

Other stuff I am ok eating - rice pudding, ricotta cheese, cottage cheese, and all white procesed stuff like rice an pasta. Stuff I NEVER used to eat.

I would kill for some wheat bread and a plate of broccoli!

Cheers

Dulcimergal,

It sounds like your dealing with your ileo about as good as I am. What gets me through everyday is that I have the countdown going.

Are you having a scope or anything before the takedown surgery? or did they just schedule it? I have a scope set for the 28th of this month and if all is healed he told me he could do surgery the following week. So far, I have thought of all the bad things that could happen instead of the good.

My appetite has been crazy....all I want to do is eat ALL day long. my little ileo gets a real workout all day.

Hope to hear from you soon. Have a great day!!!

Hi Denise,

I meant to ask you about the scope - my Doc did not mention that - My next appointment with him is July 21st, then he will see how I am doing and I got the impression he was going to schedule the surgery for the end of the month (the 30th is six weeks - I am doing the countdown too!!)

He did say they would test the plumbing to be sure there is no leakage - but I did not ask how....silly me!

Do you have a real swollen belly? I was wondering since you had lapro surgery if you were feeling better than me in that area - my abdomen just feels so huge....

Cheers

Dulcimergal,

Let me know after you see your doc. I'm really curious to see how he checks to make sure it's working. When I go for my scope on the 28th it'll be about 5-1/2 weeks at that time, so I figure 6 weeks is when they normally take it down (even though he told me 4). The other thing he told me is that he may send me out for a CT scan to make sure everything is healed and there are no leaks. Not looking forward to drinking that goop.

As far as my abdomen, I had lapro surgery and am not having any issues with a bloated belly. Fortunately, everything feels like it is healing well and if this bag was gone......you know the rest!

When are you starting chemo? Do you know what you'll be doing? Did they advise you to keep the bag for it? My doc and onc both mentioned taking the bag off first to me, so I hope all goes well. I think they saw that I lost so much weight (20 pounds and I weighed 130 to start), that I think they figured I need to get my strength back before the chemo.

Anyway, have a great day! It's supposed to be 87 degrees here today!

Denise
