Brain cancer oliodendroglioma

hi, its been a while since i wrote my husband was diognosed 5 years ago with oliodendroglioma grade 2. He had surgery, with near removal and radiotreatment. he had 5 very good years only his left leg was weak. last August he was in just 3 days deteriorating and after an mri was made it confirmed the tumor was back. he was operated for a second time in early September, and after 7 weeks in hospital due to some complications released and put on temodal 5 days every 28 days. in January the cancer was back 2 cm, but the doctor continued the chemo. In April the cancer had not grown further, ansd we got some hope again he would live a while longer. Than 4 weeks ago he deteriorated in a few days, and lost control of his left leg and arm and his speech. he now is being nursed at home in a hospital bed as he is still strong and tried to get out of a normal bed, this resulting in him faling down several times. he was put on steroids. They made him a bit stronger but only for a week now he is very weak and sleeps 20 hours a day, i fear he will die soon. I have still 2 montly dosis of temodol 440 mg a day in my house, that are useless. i read al those terrible posts from people who have no money to buy the chemo i would like to give them away. pl cntact me if anybody needs this type of chemo. My husband is dearly loved by all of his family and we all will miss him greatly, now we try to make him as comfortable as possible. he hasalmost stopped all communicating. Its such a shame how this disease reduces a powerfull being to a plant. But we are very lucky he had 5 good years after the first diognoses.

pauline47, I am so very sorry about your husband's oligodendroglioma. I was diagnosed with a glioma grade II in 1992 with a recurrence as a grade III in 2005 so your husband's story really hits close to home with me. Was your husband's glioma a higher grade well it recurred? You can read all of my story by going to the links in my signature block.

As much as I understand your wish to give away the left over temodol, it is illegal to do so in the US.

Dear Pauline

I too am sorry to hear about your Husband's decline with his brain tumour. Even though you may have had 5 more years the whole brain tumour things SUX!

It is unfortunate the steroids only helped for a few days. I do hope he is comfortable & I'm sure having him at home is a much better situation for you all. Do you have palliative care assisting you as well?

The challenges you are facing at the moment must be difficult & I will hold you & your Husband up in my prayers.

My Bro too had a similar situation last year with L side deficits from his brain tumour. Fortunately, he is still battling on with the challenges this devastating illness brings.

hi Angie

thx for the sweet reply, i am having a nrse for an hour to give injections and stuf, but it realy isnt enough as my husband is a heavy man, and depends on diapers now, its hard to change diapers on a 250 pound man. he keeps himself very stiff and i have to pry his hands lose of the bed to turn him. Anyway i am stil coping, hardest i find to see his deteriation of a strong powerful man to a baby. Although his mind stil functions as an adult, and he can still speak although with difficulties. keep you al posted.
Hope your brother keeps fighting i thinkthat what kept my husband in a good condition for so long

Pauline,
I am very sorry to hear about your husband.
My wife had surgery (which was almost fatal) for the same brain cancer in late 2006, so this hits home very hard to see such problems for yourself and husband in 5 years time.
