This may sound somewhat silly to some of you, but I ask with sincerity. Some people give a human name to their tumors (e.g., Fred). It allows some people to separate the illness from themselves, it can make it seem more temporary, and it can make it seem less serious and intimidating. Does anyone else share a similar experience? Does/Has this helped you cope with your circumstances, are there any other benefits you find to giving a name to your illness?

I have deleted this question before. But in the interest of fairness, why do you what to know? Do you or someone you love have cancer?

Depersonalizing our cancer is common. I personally went the other direction and realized that those cancer cells where indeed MY cells.

Please reply with an answer to my question or I will not only delete this topic but ban you. I am sorry to have to take such a confrontational approach. However, this forum is filled with hurting people and is intended to provide information and support people who are directly affected by cancer and not for curious people to ask questions.

Thanks.
