Endocervical carcinoma

I am a studying to become a cytotechnologist, and I am doing research on endocervical adenocarcinoma. I am trying to find what types of treatments are available for such a cancer. From personal experiences I have come into contact with a few doctors that have poor "bed-side" manner. In becoming involved in support groups, such as this, I hope it will allow me to be more understanding and give patients the correct care that they deserve. I appreciate any responses people are willing to send me. Thank you.

My friend has been diagnosed with endocervical adenocarcinoma. She gives her oncologist, Dr. BethAnn Powell of UCSF, high marks for both medical knowledge and bed side manner. Hope this is helpful. UCSF is a teaching medical center, so you may find them helpful in your research.

Hi. I was diagnosed with endocervical clear cell adenocarcinoma post hysterectomy in August 2004. The pap smear read abnormal glandular cells of undetermined significance. Subsequent colposcopy and uterine ECC did not note carincoma. A simple hysterectomy with removal of ovaries was scheduled due to hyperplasia and cysts that would develop and rupture in ovaries. I was 48 years old and had no plans for more children!!! A week after hysterectomy the gyn called to say that something "unexpected" had been discovered. After getting 2 opinions and the gyn talking with other docs at a couple places in the country it was determined that a proper staging could not have been made because a radical hysterectomy was not performed. So began 6 weeks of daily radiation with once weekly Cisplatin chemo to boost the radiation. I did not have any internal radiation. I completed treatments on November 30th 2004 and so far so good. They considered it curative treatment. The cancer had minimal invasion, but because it was not properly staged they did not want to take a risk that it had spread elsewhere. They considered further surgery but said it would be an extremely difficult surgery and would probably require radiation anyway. My only complaint with the physicians/treatment providers was the delay in decisions. I waited nearly 8 weeks between surgery and a definate decision for treatment. That was mentally very hard. The blow of hearing the word cancer assigned to your body is tough and we need to supplied with as much info and be a part of the planning.......afterall it is our body. Good luck in your career.

[b][i]My mother was just diagnosed with endocervical adenocarcinoma. We are not exactly sure what to expect with this diagnosis. If anyone can help me out with what to expect I would greatly appreciate it. She will be seeing a specialist here in Austin, TX who is going to perform a complete hysterectomy soon. Her PCP told here that the tumor on the left upper quadrant of the uterus is very fast moving and she will for sure need that the hysterectomy. We are at a lost... I am in the medical field myself but I do not work with cancer patients. Please help. Thank you and God bless.[/i][/b]

Hi Kimberly_2779,

I am sorry to hear about your mother's diagnosis. I cannot answer your questions, but hopefully someone who visits the forum will be able to. I was diagnosed with Stage III-C endometrial adenocarcinoma starting in the uterus, which eventually reached the cervix. It was discovered during an abdominal hysterectomy, at which time they took out the uterus, ovaries, and some of the lymph nodes. About a month later I went through 30 rounds of radiation, and another month later, I had an internal radiation implant inserted into the vaginal area. The oncologist I saw after I had these treatments said he would had done chemotherapy in conjunction with a week of radiation to my abdominal area, where a lymph node tested positive.

One thing I have noticed, certain cancers of the reproductive organs seem to be really different from each other and therefore their treatments differ. I wish I could had been more helpful, please keep us posted on how your mother is doing. You are both in my prayers.
