I've been coming to this forum since April 2008. That was when my sister was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She was already Stage IV. I've read with great interest other's stories, and now I feel I am ready to tell of my journey with my sister. Chris is ten years older than me-has been my best friend since I was born. We even taught together at the same school for 17 years until this hideous disease forced her to retire early. She went in for surgery to repair hernias and remove what the doctor thought was fat necrosis. The pathology report came back positive for metastatic cancer. The next day, a CAT scan revealed the pancreas as the primary origin. After rounds of chemo to include Gemzar/Tarceva and then Xeloda, scans revealed that the tumors continued to grow. Chris did pretty well until November. She then lost a tremendous amount of weight and experienced severe pain. Hospice was called, and they were wonderful.
I took a leave of absence from teaching beginning December 9 in order to spend more time with Chris and to help with her care. It was an honor to help care for her, but it was also very frustrating. You see, there was no way to position her or help her that did not cause her any pain. Even with the morphine pump the cancer was always 3 steps ahead. Her last night was very hard. She experienced terminal agitation and later that day began to have very violent seizures. It took 3 hours to get the seizures under control. Chris died at 12:49 am Christmas morning. I miss her so much. December 28 was my 50th birthday-my first without her.
I am glad she is no longer in pain, but I am selfish. I want my sister.
I continue to pray for all those suffering from PC and their caregiver[/color]s.

I'm so sorry for your loss. This is my fear and dread. I don't want my mother-in-law to suffer, but she already is. My prayers go out to you and your family.

Crying or Very sad I am so sorry. Your sister will always be with you, and may god's love be with you and your family at this difficult time.
