Hi,

I've got an interesting information for you. I read 2 studies. These studies shows that the consumption of green tea could increases the efficency of some radiotherapy for some kind of cancer. But it was an in vitro study

There is an enzym in green tea, the epigallocatechine-3-gallate, that increases by 40% the speed of destruction of the cancer cells. That's what explains this synergy.

You should dring the tea in one hour but let the temperature decrease under 65C or 149Farenheit

I am not a doctor and this is not an advise. Just an information You can ask your doctor or many doctor to have many opinions and show him the references of the 2 studies :

Journal of neuro-oncology 2006 80(2) 111:121

Radiation Induced-Tubulogenesis in Endothelial Cells is Antagonized by the
Antiangiogenic Properties of Green Tea Polyphenol (-) Epigallocatechin-3-Gallate

[Cancer Biology & Therapy 2:6, 642-649; November/December 2003]; ©2003 Landes Bioscience

You can also ask a nutritionist (who has to know oncology) but he must collaborate with your oncologist.

Also talk to your doctor and nutritionist about the quantities

The cold green tea (for instace in PET bottles) is useless, even if it's written in the bottle.

Merry Xmas

PS : I am sorry for my english, it's not my native language

Thank you for the information... especially the citation. I will have to look it up next time I am at the hospital library.

All:
I recommend you all do your own research, particularly if you are undergoing chemo along with radiation. There is research both for and against green tea during treatment; on the "for" side the antioxidant qualities, and on the "against" side there is some evidence that it MAY reduce the effectiveness of certain chemo. Do your homework, check your chemo drug sheets, talk to your doc first.

I drank green tea in moderate quantities (<10 cups a week) during treatment (about my normal intake post-treatment as well).
Aloha,
RH
