|
|
| My dad had an appointment today to receive his chemo pump but was postponed until Monday because of insurance. Can the insurance deny it? He has several tumors that are floating. They have given him up to a year to live. He is supposed be on the chemo 48 hrs then have a week off. Has anyone done this kind of chemo before? How effective is it? |

Are you talking about the little "pack" that he wears around while the chemo is being infused? These are very common, so I can't imagine that the insurance would deny this. I used to see other patients going home with them all the time when we'd be at the oncologist's office.
Good luck and let's hope the insurance doesn't dally around with approving this for your Dad.
God bless,

| I think thats what it is. He takes it home and wears uses it for 48 hrs. He should start on Monday. I know this will probably not cure him but i am hoping he will have more time and not be in any pain |

Hi Kitty,
There should be no problem getting the insurance approval. As I said before, this is very common. I remember my SIL wearing hers during a successful battle with breast cancer.
Let's have hope that this new chemo will keep the wolves at bay for a long time for your Dad. Keeping someone pain free is one of the greatest blessings we, as family members, can hope for our loved ones.
Good luck and God bless,

| I just heard the insurnace denied the chemo because he has had it before. How can this be? He has pretty much give up on everything at this point. Am i being naive or dumb about this chemo even working or not? I am trying to have a positive attitude for not only him but my children. I will not tell the kids anything until there is something to tell them. |

| He had the Whipple in Feb of 07 and then had chemo and radaition April - August. When he went in October is CA marker was 11 and the body scan was clear. I am going to assume that the chemo did not work and that is why it was denied. I am only getting information from his wife and it is all doom and glum. I think she is very depressed right now and is not looking at any positive outcome at all right now. She cannot tell me what stage it is or anything. The dr told her that he has only seen one person with the kind of aggressive cancer that he has and he only lived a year. They have been going to MD Anderson. My dad cannot handle emotionally to see the grankids and has told me that it is easier talking about it on the phone. I know there will come a point when she will be furious with his children because we are not doing enough but i am sure what i need to for him or where to even start. [/u] |
