I am at least 100 lbs overweight. 38 years old. Female. I smoked for 10 years but have quit for 7 years.
I joined a gym last Saturday and did a circuit type training for 1/2 an hour and then walked on the treadmill for 15 minutes. It was a great workout and it felt good to finally be doing something proactive to get healthy.
My problem is that 2 days later my lungs started feeling bad. It originally felt like a cold does when it moves into your chest, but I had no other symptoms of a cold. I have had the cough for 4 days now. It is controllable and doesn't produce a lot of flem, but some. The other thing is that with every cough it kind of tastes like blood, only I haven't been able to produce enough flem to see if there is any blood present.
My question is: Could this be lung cancer or did I just over due it and stress out my lungs?
I have read some other sign of lung cancer and I have a few like:
Chills - I had chills the first day of the cough.
Muscle contractions or atrophy (shrinkage) - during my workout I had a charlie horse in my foot
Joint pain or swelling - My knees, elbows and shoulders hurt when I had the chills. Not muscle soreness from workout. I sometimes get joint aches when the weather turns cold, or from air conditioning in the summer
I have no medical insurance, so if this just sounds like an allergy or something else, I will just wait it out, but if someone thinks otherwise, I sure would like to know.
Thanks, |

Don't wait one more second. Check yourself into a county hospital right away and tell them you could taste blood. I had the same thing happen to me and I?m glad I went to the hospital. My lung collapsed, If I had not gone to the hospital when I did I would have died. I was between jobs and didn?t have any insurance; the hospital bill came to $256,225.22
Please go to the hospital. Don't worry about the cost, I didn't and I'm glad I went.

Hello
If you are producing blood in the sputum this should be looked into. It is not necessarily cancer, there are other causes such as infections that can cause this.
best regards,

Thanks for the replies. After the first reply, I did panic a bit and got myself to a doctor. Turns out I have a virus? I received some good cough syrup and I'm feeling much better today. If things persist though, my doctor said we'd do a chest xray in two weeks.
Thanks again! |

Excellent. I think since you smoked you still think about lung cancer, right ? I have to congratulate you on abandoning tobacco. We were just discussing it in another thread.
best regards, and get well soon,

Yes, that is exactly the case. I quit before my second child was born, but I smoked the first 6 years of my daughter's life and I even get nuts when she gets sick, thinking the second hand damaged her as well. It's been 7 years, but I don't know if that fear will ever go away.
Also, my grandfather died of emphysema. I know that can be hereditary, but he smoked for about 60 years and worked in a mine. ?? My husband gave up chewing tobacco the same night I gave up smoking. Yikes! that was a couple weeks of walking on egg shells. But we were both successful and we got through it. The cravings get better over time, but they never go away completely. I still have dreams where I have "just one" and when I wake up my pillow will actually smell like smoke to me. The mind can play some vicious games.
Now, if I can just get feeling better so I can hit the gym again and do something about this weight. I want to raise my children to adulthood, see some grandchildren and spend my twilight years with my wonderful husband. Is there a better reason to get healthy? NO!
I've chatted your eyes off long enough, Thanks Again! |
