Hi there. I just need some information from anyone who has had the same type of situation.
When I was seven I was very sick, and the lymph node on my neck became swollen. It never went down and two doctors told me this can happen, and not to worry.
This February I was sick, and another node in my neck became swollen. So, I paid attention to it and got another cold.
About three weeks ago I noticed it still had not gone down. (I forgot about it in the meantime.) I was a little concerned, and decided to see the doctor.
Today, while I was in the shower, I noticed that a node under my armpit was swollen and tender and quite large. Freaking out, I called my boyfriend who came home and went to the doctor.
The doctor said that yes, (I had more then two in my apparently) the nodes in my neck were swollen, but only slightly. He said that the patients he has seen with swollen glands that turn into cancer, they nodes are about the size of his thumb. He also felt under my armpits. He said not to worry too much, as he wasn't, and gave me a requsistion for CBC and LD.
I then asked him if the swellling in the armpit node could be caused from my sore throat that I had just developed. He said it was abnormal. Then, he said that if it doesn't go down within 3-4 weeks, come back and he'll order a biopsy.
I am soo scared right now. I was just watching my 14 month old tonight and couldn't stop thinking that what if I die?
I was wondering if anyone has had anything even remotely similar to what I have just written? Are they usually beign when they are painful, like under my armpit. Would every node be swollen, like in the groin, for example?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Ranna |

Dear Ranna
Thanks for posting. It can be very scary when you're not sure what you have. Sometimes lymphnode enlargement is persistent, and just goes away. I know noething about your situation otherwise, but it sounds like the doctor was not very impressed with it. Usually lymphnodes that are tender are due to inflammation, but that is not 100% certain. My only advice to you would be to follow up with your physician, and if anything changes, to let him/her know.
best regards,
