I had two "ugly moles" removed on the 16th, at that time the dermatologist told me she'd call me by the end of the week. Well last Thursday I called and they said that my results had been delayed due to additional staining that needed done. What does this mean? Now that we are approaching 3 weeks since I had the moles removed and I don't know anything yet, I'm starting to worry. Crying or Very sad

Little history, Cauc. very pale, burns easily and has had blistering ones. Father has had melanoma treated w/ surgery and interferon. The two moles removed had all the ABCD signs.

Maybe someone here knows what the additional staining is for.

Thanks

afishfan, I am very sorry about your health concerns. It does sound worrisome to me that it is taking this long to get the results back. I am not sure what additional staining they would need to make an initial estimation about the identity of those moles. Maybe someone else will have that information for you.

Let us know what you find out. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Jim,

The doctor called and said that I have a compound nevus? They really didn't explain much other then they need to cut deeper to make sure they got everything. Is a compound nevus precancerous or is it melanoma or something else? They really didn't give me a chance to ask any questions. My appt is on the 16th.

Thanks

A compound nevus is a pre pre pre cancerous mole. In almost all cases, it is considered benign and of no concern... like birth marks. However, any mole should be watched carefully because they can change.

In my humble opinion, this is good news Smile
