hello all. my brother had surgery 2 weeks ago for GBM. just wondering how soon till they start radiation. what is the standard time before radiation starts after surgery. i have heard of taking chemo before radiation starts also. what is the standard time after surgery for chemo also

diagnosed low grade 2 brain tumor 2006. latest mri confirms higher grade 3-4. surgery only resected small percentage and no radiation or chemo as of yet

I am not sure what the standard time before radiation and chemo starts. I suspect it depends on appointment availability etc. my grandson started radiation and chemo together approx 5 weeks after his operation,but that is here in the uk.Jim will probably know if there is a standard.
I know how you are feeling,you just want everything done immediately and not give the tumour any time to start growing,at least thats how I felt.I am sure the medical people wont leave your brother longer than necessary.
the waiting game seems to be the nature of the beast.

Standard time is about a month. The doctors need to wait until swelling has subsided.

My son started his about 5 weeks after surgery, as well.

I started my radiation about 6 weeks after surgery but only because 4 weeks would be in the middle of the Christmas-New Year season. But it is about one month depending on how fast the person recovers from the surgery.
