Firstly, hello to everyone, i have been searching the net and have found this site and just wanted to ask advice please. I recently had a chest xray which showed left hilar shadow with peripheral consolidation and have been for a CT scan and i am going to have a bronchoscopy next week, so it is a very worrying time and i was just wondering if anyone has gone through a similar experience that can give me any advice to help me while i am waiting for these results, thanks for listening.

Welcome to the club Annie.

Since you don?t know if you have cancer my advice would be this. Start taking Celebrex. 200mg x2 a day. It?s proven that even a placebo can help you if you believe it can and Celebrex is very safe to take. Celebrex studies have concluded that it sensitizing cancer cells to apoptotic signals (it promotes cancer cell death) and also has an effect on angiogenesis (it prevents cancers from growing blood vessels). Tell your doctor you would like some Celebrex for your arthritis. There is an increase in heart related risk when taking Celebrex but it?s a relatively small risk compared the benefits it has to offer. Celebrex can be taken not only to help fight cancer but also to prevent cancer too.

Annie,

If your doctor felt that you needed a bronchoscopy, it is because he/she wants to be able to look inside the lungs and maybe do a biopsy if he/she finds something. Bronchoscopies are procedures that are done under sedation. For now, there is not much you can do other than try to relax. As far as the Celebrex goes, I would disagree with Max. While there is evidence that this type of medication can have an effect on cancer, this is so far unproven. In addition any non-steroidal agents can cause your blood not to clot as well, so it could potentially interfere with the bronchoscopy. Talk to your doctor about this.

best regards,
Leo

My catscan showed a mass 2X2 centimeters. Then the petscan confirmed it. Now I am going to see a pulmonologist (spelling) tomorrow... probably headed towards a biopsy.

I had cervical cancer 5 years ago, and that is why I was getting a CT scan. I underwent 2 surgeries related to the cervical cancer. Where this lung things has come from now I wonder. No break for me, I guess.

So, do I want to go through another surgery, or chemo...?

Well, the bronchoscopy showed healy looking bronchi, and biopsy was all negative, but the mass is still there. So, it seems the growth is far from the walls of the bronchi, and now they want me to do another test. This time they want to cut into the base of my throat and get to my lungs that way, so that they can biopsy the actual mass. That is an actual surgical procedure and will leave me with a scar on my neck, of course...

has anyone here have that done and can anyone give me some feedback, please?

Thanks,
Z

Hi!
I'm really new to all this but couldn't they do a FNAB (Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy)? They just numb the skin and insert a needle into the tumor with the help of a CT and remove some cells for analysis. It sounds way more non-invasive. My mom is having it done next week. Good luck with whatever you decide.

If this mass isi 2 x 2 it is large enough to be picked up on a pet scan. Have you had one yet. If not, get one. It has very high accuracy in picking up cancer and involves only a shot of some radioactive glucose and picture taking.
biopsies always present the possibility of spreading the cancer cells as the needle is retracted.
Call your doc. for a pet scan test
Good luck to you

Hi Z,

Did the doctor say why they can't get a biopsy of the spot with just going into the lung with a needle? I had a biopsy done that way and its not a big deal and doesn't hurt.
