The doctor said that it is "smouldering" as in "inactive". However, she has had to have blood transfusions monthly and now more and more frequently. She just had one last week and now has to have another tommow because her hemoglobin is dropping so low. Her doctors can not figure out what the heck is going on or where the blood is going. Has anyone here ever experienced this before? I need some answers quick because it is not looking good for her.

Hi Canova. I am sorry to hear about your mother's diagnosis. My ex father in law had MM for 6 years before it finally killed him.

It is my impression that "smoldering" just means that the MM is not spreading. It does not mean that it is not causing problems or it would never be diagnosed. I think it is a matter of degree... that is, how far off from normal are her CBC results? Hemoglobin is the iron carrying protein in the red blood cells. Is her red blood cell count also very low? Is it possible that she was at least slightly anemic before the MM? These are a few questions I would have for my doctor if this were me. Let us know what you find.

You and your mother are in my thoughts and prayers.
