My dad has had Parkinson's disease for over 20 years now and has been suffering badly from the illness.. a couple of years ago he had surgery in Lebanon where they place a battery operated system in his chest with wires leading up to his brain. It has been a case of trial and error to see which settings work best for him, and a lot of money spent on doctors. Over the past few months he's had problems urinating, and with constipation which have lead him to end up in ER. The hospital said he would have to wait until September to have a scan but my mum decided not to take the risk and paid for a scan at a clinic. They discovered he had stones in his gallbladder and had to have surgery immediately. He went in last Friday and he had them removed, but while the surgeon was in there he found a lump growing from his gallbladder to his liver. He removed it all, but the tests just came back today and they discovered the lump is cancerous.. cancer of the gallbladder. I don't know how to feel, i don't know if i should be worried... Does this mean my dad has cancer? The doctor is sure he removed it all, but i still think further blood tests should be made. The doctor said there's nothing more he can do for him, as he said there's nothing that can be done for this kind of cancer... He said he knows patients who have lived with it for a year, and another for 4 years. Does this mean my dad is terminally ill? I need to know what to expect... if someone can please help shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated. I'm so confused and lost right now... my dad has suffered enough and so has my mum... even if chemo were an option, my dad is too weak to endure it, especially because of the Parkinson's... Thank you in advance for anyone reading this post...

Joannak, I am so sorry about your father's health. It is hard enough to deal with the Parkinson's but now this too?

If they said it was a cancer or a malignant tumor, then your father does have cancer. There is no way of telling at this point how much if any of the cancer cells where left behind.

I do not know what you can expect other than a very difficult time ahead. How long? I do not know. How bad is his Parkinson's? Do all that you can with whatever time he has left to help him enjoy his life. It might be 1 year or 10. I do not know and no one else does either.

You and your father are in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you Brainman... i'm so glad i found this website, i really needed some straight answers. I think the best thing we can do now is see a specialist, someone with more information.

My dad is not doing so well, he has an infection which is causing a fever, and because his body is in such a shock over the surgery, the Parkinson's meds aren't working. He's completely helpless, has lost a lot of weight suddenly and can barely move or talk... it's scary seeing him like that.

I just hope God doesn't take him from us too quickly, we're still trying to get used to the fact that he has cancer...

When he found out he had the stones and had to have surgery he was worried he was going to die because his mother had the same surgery and a year later she died of liver cancer... and we kept telling him not to worry, everything would be alright.. and now his fears have become a reality... you never think it could actually happen to you, until it does...
