brief history, at age 26 had 6 moles removed at once, all came back atypical. fast foward to now, at age 33 i've been watching some moles develop into weird shapes. so i took the initiative and went in to see my normal derm, he just did the old eyeball test and said yeah there a few that need to come off. i had another appointment set up with a new derm to get a 2nd opinion. and he used the magnify light glass tool to look at all suspicious moles and saw one on my right upper shoulder that concerned him.. i got worried. the nurse comes in a numbs me, while i'm waiting for the doc to come back, i over hear him on the phone to another patient which i heard the whole convo from his end. This patient had the same last name as me and had melanoma (don't know what stage he said or if he even did) but i heard that he made an appointment in 2 days to see a specialist. i was freaking out. coincidence? maybe, maybe not..
doc comes back in and i said i over heard that convo, and that patient you talked to had my last name, he said yeah, but he is much older than you. i said ok and felt a little bit better, after the doc took the mole off, he made a pretty deep cut, enough to get stitches. i asked him for his expert opinion and asked him if it looked like melanoma, he said no, more like atypical. i said, are you just trying to make me feel better. he didn't really reply. i just thought my story today was odd. and i know the doc doesn't want me to worry for a week before the results come back, but i'm going to worry anyways, since i'm getting older and more moles are popping up..
i'm glad i did it again, in the last month i've been feeling really sick mostly aches and pains throughout the whole body, which pretty much triggered me to find the source..

| Go to another dermatologist for a second opinion. You are in a quandary about your current one as you overheard a conversation that may or may not be relevant, and I sense you do not feel the doctor is being honest with you. Trust is essential. |

i agree, my last name is smith also. very common last name. but it is so hard to see a dermatologist that isn't 4 months out.
just seems weird that the mole was so deep and wide it needed stitches and wouldn't be a form of melanoma. |

The only comment I can make about that is that the one mole I have ever had removed required stitches and turned out to be a normal and benign mole.
Presumably the dermatologist is seeking a biopsy? |
